We want to hear about the surprisingly good stuff that happened during your labor. Did you end up being besties with your nurse? Did you see firsthand how much your partner loves you? Maybe you appreciated the fact that you were in charge? Or that all your body issues disappeared? What surprisingly good things happened while you were in labor?

I am a real estate agent and my water broke at 12:30 pm while showing a home to a male client and his dad! Thankfully, my husband (and also an agent) happened to be there. Hubby was trying to set me up to show one more home to them and I was giving a death glare and shaking my head "NO!" to this event... I really didn't to blurt out "hey, my water broke!" in front of all parties, but that's what happened!

Needless to say, I had to cancel my showings for another client for later that day. Another agent showed the houses and of course those clients wanted to write an offer! I was on the phone agents and clients on the way to triage. At 4pm I shut the phone down, only to find out my contractions - which I wasn't feeling - were less than 3 minutes apart.

Charley was born at 9:39, sans meds, and I was back emailing agents and working before midnight... The labor was great! My OB said for #2 I'd better get to the hospital the minute my water breaks - no stopping for dinner and work!

I had always joked that I wanted to negotiate an offer in labor! I didn't but pretty dang close!

I planned to labor at home as long as possible and then have a natural med-free birth at the hospital. After 14 hours of labor, I walked 3 miles to go to my midwife's office and I LOVED IT! I had to stop every 8 minutes when a contraction hit but I'd do it again next time.

I went to the hospital 7 hours later when my contractions were 6 minutes apart. However, my big baby boy was born with a c-section because he was too big for me (cephalo-pelvic disproportion) after 21 hours of labor and getting to 7 cm without meds. I don't regret trying for a natural med-free birth and I will try again next time.

I have a funny from mine.

I was induced the night before and we wanted to get settled before we told family that we were at the hospital, to avoid people bombarding us. DH waited until we were going to bed that night (11ish) to inform our families of the impending arrival of DD. After we told our family, apparently word traveled quickly, because the next morning, as I was beginning to push, I heard a, "Knock, knock! Can I come in and see how you're doing?!" from a family friend who was in the area and wanted to check on me. She almost caught an up-close and personal show of DD's arrival...fortunately, they had screens up and we shouted, "COME BACK LATER!" We still crack up about it often with her. She was SO embarrassed!!

I was having contractions for over 24 hours before I had my baby. The best/funniest part about my labour is that when my waters finally broke, I was lay on my side while my partner was massaging my back and they went everywhere and he was covered in it. I didn't find it funny at the time but I look back now and laugh about it, he doesn't though!

I had a very easy labor. My son was born 45 minutes after we got to the hospital and (though it was no picnic) labor wasn't nearly as terrible as I had imagined

I am so happy to see this question on here. When I was pregnant, everyone told me horror stories about their labor, and I was terrified! Thank goodness ours went really smoothly, and we were able to have the birth we wanted.

I went into Labor 8/11 in the very early am. Contractions were not that bad. Mid morning my DH and I went in our pool and I walked around, feeling great with the pressure off. Hours later when my water broke, I was feeling the contractions coming pretty strong, but I wouldn't say they were unbearable. I actually went to sleep and when I woke up, I was fully dilated. We had a water birth planned, which again, made me feel really good. The water was really warm, and I felt like I could actually get comfortable to push. My DH and Midwife were amazing, and our beautiful daughter was born at 7:37 am on the 12th, wide awake, looking around. I was happy we were able to have a med-free waterbirth. I know a lot of times things do not go according to plan. Although the labor was long, I was happy to have a great support system and the birth we had wanted.

Birth has the possibilities to be one of the sweetest and endearing hours of your life. I had a wonderful birth experience with my 2nd son. I had an all natural birth, and my husband was my support person. He really surprised me in the strength he provided me throughout my laboring. The experience was beyond "bonding", it was spiritual between us. I had a medicated birth with my first son, and while it was an "ok" experience, it was definitely not as relationship intensive as my 2nd birth.

I also prayed that God would provide the doctors and nurses that I needed in order to give birth. I think before you enter labor/birth you have an idea of what you will like/dislike/need. And while some of those hold true, some of them will not (i.e. I thought I would love the tub, and I hated it). The same is true for birth attendants. Sometimes we think we will want a "warm and fuzzy" nurse attending the birth, but come to find out, you needed someone more straight-forward in order to get through your birth (i.e. someone telling you "You need to get up and walk now", or giving you something to focus on, etc.

One thing that really surprised me was how your modesty disapears throughout your birth process. Eventually I didn't care who saw or heard anything. And it was great. I was doing my "birthing thing" and I knew what my body needed in order to cope through the process.

You asked a great question and I hope others find all these great responses from other posters an encouragement to pursue the birth of your dreams!

i was due oct 26 but mr fatty was loving the all the food he didnt wanna come out so i had to go to the dotor before they turned me in to be redues , and long story short the docotor i had was from gremeny so everything he said was funny and my husband was in the room with us , so he told me he was gonna check me to see how my far apart i was so before he ramed his fringer in me i asked him what is he gonna do and he said im doing what your husband should be doing i busted out in laugher the look on my honey face he looked like he really wanna to beat that doctor up

When the doctor was pulling out the placenta, somehow blood shot up and all over me and the baby. It looked like a murder scene. The doctor felt really bad but I thought it was kinda funny.
