cleaning throw up in carseat!

Omg ds threw up milk in his carseat when with the in-laws!!! Now I'm trying to clean his safety 1st alpha omega elite! Can I find the manual...no!
So I'm trying to do it while looking at the manual on my phone. The smell is horrible!! Blahh!!!
But my problem is that I can't get the cushion that he sits on out. I hate carseats!!! Dh usually takes the carseats apart & puts em back together but of course he's gone working.
Anybody have any suggestions on cleaners? I've been lucky & haven't had to deal with vomit much in 3 yrs.
TIA!

Re: cleaning throw up in carseat!

  • I took the seat out & sprayed with the hose. Had to wash vomit out of the nooks & crannies of the buckles. I also rinsed all the chunks off the seat then completely removed the seat cover & padding and threw it in the washing machine. In the car I used carpet cleaner to help with the smell.

I'm sorry. This happened to us a couple months ago. I was like noooooo!

  • We have the Eddie Bauer version of that seat and I've definitely taken it all apart and tossed it into the washer.  I let it air dry though.

Then I'd scrub the shell with a bleach-cleaner or with clorox wipes.  The straps I'd wash with just water...maybe a little febreeze.  And I'd let it sit in the sun a bit.  If you think it's gotten into the buckles and stuff I'd call the company and ask them to send you new straps & buckles.

Sorry you have to do this... it sounds perfectly awful.

  • Yea its no fun! I sprayed it down with the hose to get any crap out of it & then I sprayed it with vinegar. Hopefully I can finish taking it apart during naps!

I have to do this all the time because DS gets carsick. Armor All makes upholstery wipes that I LOVE for cleaning the carseat.

Good to know!! I will be investing in some of those

  • OMG, over xmas DD threw up in DH's carseat and it just kept coming up and up.  we had to pull over and get a bag for her.  It was a combination of mac and cheese and cookie.  The smell was the worst.  DH used toothpicks to clean all the harness spots.  We had to soak some things in water and we washed the fabric cover.  I'm so glad it was his car seat and not mine.

  • Well I let it set outside over night after spraying it down then sprayed it with vinegar then took it apart & washed the seat cover twice! I cleaned the straps with vinegar. Let it dry outside! Then put it back together & the throw up smell is finally gone!!! Yayy!!!
