NWMR - wooden train set - does it matter what brand?

Hi Ladies,

DD's 2nd birthday is coming up and I wanted to get her a wooden train set.  There's a Kidkraft train set on sale on Zulily today.

I like that this set has other vehicles included in it (she LOVES cars, helicopters, and planes)

I'm wondering if anyone has this set.  Do you like it?  Can you add other pieces to it from other brands?  I want to get something that will last and that she will enjoy for years.  I would like to be able to get a set that is compatible with other tracks and trains.

Thanks Ladies!

  • I don't know anything about the set you mentioned.

My son LOVES his train table and Thomas the Train. We have this one: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=22711866&cp=&parentPage=search. It is compatible with the Thomas wooden trains and came with some cars and trains of its own. He plays with it non-stop.

  • I don't know if we have that brand but we buy a lot of train pieces from consignment sales and have found that most of the brands are all compatible with our original Thomas set.

My only concern about that set is that the majority of it is elevated.  We have had trouble with some of our Thomas elevated sections staying together while DS plays with it and have had to tape some of the tracks together.

I'd go on Amazon and see what the reviews are.
