Ear infections contagious?

  Well, the ear infection itself is not, but the cause of it might be. Is it due to a cold where fluids are not draining properly and caused the ear infection?

  EI aren't infectious. They usually develop when you have a cold or other respiratory infection.
  
  Kiddo should be fine to come over as long as doesn't have the usual things you would keep your LO home with.

  Thanks. And double duh, just remembered they are in daycare together all day anyway, so I'm guessing if he is in daycare he might as well come over after! Not sure if he had a cold before the ear infection, I think it just presented as a fever out of nowhere.

  BluepointToasted Sorry I have no idea if they are contagious and for some reason only read your question and no ones answer but I was plagued with ear infections A LOT as a kid. If your child gets it or the antibiotics don't work for your friends kid the best stuff is put a clove of garlic in olive oil and put a few droppers in their ear and let it sit for a bit then let it drain out. My mom put the clove in the olive oil  but I find a website and they do it a little different. but I think it was better letting it sit in the oil. after about 4 or 5 treatments (during an infection) I stopped having infections all together.
