date night fail ... kind of

We had a date night planned for last Friday of dinner and a movie. Our daycare offers one parent's night a month and we signed up.

What does it say about me as a parent that I backed out once I realized it was a caregiver neither my daughter or I knew? The whole idea of me being OK with leaving her at daycare is she would be familiar with the setting. But a different teacher (older kids, not infant) and different classroom made me second guess it and DH and I just went to dinner (with LO) and skipped the movie.

Am I being over protective or would you have left LO at daycare?

  • I would have done the same thing, I am weird about who watches my kids. I would have felt bad too if I had to leave DS all day and then into the evening at daycare.. I always second guess myself like that though  ;) Glad that you and DH got out on some sort of a date though !

  • Personally I think I would have left my DD in that situation, but I don't think what you did was wrong in any way. If it didn't feel right to you then it's good to go with your gut. Now that you know the program is in a different room with a different teacher maybe you'll feel more comfortable in a few months or so when LO is older.

I think that's awesome that your Day Care offers one parent's night a month. It's necessary to have that in a relationship IMO. At first I would feel kinda iffy also leaving LO with someone I'm not familiar with, but I would probably have brought my LO there anyway. Is that person the regular "date night" provider? Alternate coverage will happen a lot with Day Cares, so you won't know who will be subbing for your age group all the time. At least that's how my experiences have been with my first born.

No she was not the normal person for the date night for the infants. Its typically Ms. E from LO's class which is why I was ok with leaving her there in the first place. Maybe next month we'll try again.

  • Nope not overprotective in my eyes.  My LO goes to an in home DC and our provider had a small outpatient procedure.  She told me in advance and hired someone to fill in for her that day.  I had my mom come and watch my DD instead. I don't know that lady and neither does my LO so I was not comfortable with it.  Yes I am a typical FTM and maybe will relax more with the next but for now I am very protective and I admit it :)
