I recently booked my photographer for maternity and newborn session. One other item she is offering is a "Fresh 48" session - for $50, she comes to the hospital for 45 minutes and takes pictures in a more documentary type session as opposed to posed photos of baby.
I have never heard of this before. On one hand, I imagine the time in the hospital is hectic enough without having a photographer there but on the other hand, maybe it is so hectic that you don't end up getting many pictures of this time?
What do you think? Have you heard of this? Should I go for it?

I was lucky enough to find someone who is working to build her portfolio so she is offering special pricing ($75 each for maternity and newborn). I would definitely try to find someone similar if you want to cut down on cost.
I looked at her current portfolio and really liked her shots. But in general I figure even of they are not amazing award winning images, I will be glad to have them and it's nice not to break the bank.
I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.
People I know who've done them always had clothed ones. They're like engagement photos, they just celebrate something different. I can't really imagine what people would do with semi-nude maternity (or non-maternity for that matter) photos. You can't put them up, put them in the baby scrapbook, or send them to your grandma. Maybe you can just say you want engagement style photos?
EDIT: read that wrong....you were married in Paso and that's where she lives. Oops! Anyway, nice area!
While the idea sounds great and the price is right..when I think back to my hospital stay, there's no way I would want a photog in my room with me. I was a mess. I delivered at 7pm, didn't sleep at all that first night. The next morning there was a parade of people in and out in and out..from my doc, to the pedi, to the hearing test lady, to this one and that one. I just wanted to lock my door..and then the visitors started..who were only our immediate family but it was neverending.
All during this I was trying to figure out how to BF so I was in lounge pants and a zip up hoodie with no bra for easy access and trying to figure out what the heck happened down below. Nurses had to help me to the bathroom to deal with massive bleeding...
so, now that I know what was going on, I'd probably not opt to do it just for the pure craziness of the time after birth.
Personally I would love to do something like this, but I think you should do what makes you the happiest.
Do you think you may regret passing up the option in the future, or would you be just as happy with the photo's SO and whoever may be in the room with you taking the pictures?
