How far along are you/what team? 34w 4d team ding dong :) If you haven't played before/aren't on the list, what kind of birth are you planning (home, BC, med free hospital)? Hospital med free played before How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? Good and I am hoping this labor will be as easy as my last one was! Have you looked into any natural induction methods? Nope to early for that Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? Nervous about all of the contractions and cramping that I have been getting. The doctor is aware ;) Anything else you want to talk about? H is nesting hard core and it's the cutest thing ever! **If you've had your baby/babies, how did it go?***

  • How far along are you/what team?  Almost 36 weeks, team green & home birthing

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?  Feeling okay, we had our home visit with our midwives so all our our supplies are set and ready to go.  We have a bit more cleaning/organizing to do (then keeping up with it) but overall I think we're in good shape.  I haven't done much to prepare myself mentally, I guess I'm just relying on my past experiences to get me through!

Have you looked into any natural induction methods?  I have RRL tea, but I haven't been drinking it and I will start eating dates this week, which I've heard can be beneficial.  I'm not looking to induce, but anything that could make things easier on me at the end is a plus.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?  My blood pressure is worrying me a bit right now.  It was higher than normal at my home visit and I checked it last night at the pharmacy and it was even higher, though still technically in the normal range for pregnancy.  I really don't like hospitals so the thought of having to go back to one for this birth bothers me, but I'll do what I need to for a healthy baby/healthy momma.  Right now I'm just taking it easy and will hopefully have better BP results when I see my midwife on Tuesday.

Anything else you want to talk about?  I'm excited to meet this baby!  I can't believe it's getting so close to the end.

How far along are you/what team?  37 weeks today / PINK
How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? I'm feeling good about things. I've prepared as much as I can at this point.
Have you looked into any natural induction methods? Not really, maybe ask me again in a week if she is still in there.
Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? I'm excited and anxious for her to arrive. I am worried that if I go early and feel anything like I do right now that my plans are going to go out the window. I can't imagine giving birth at the moment, as much as I am so over being pregnant. I am completely exhausted, so she needs to stay put until I get enough rest and strength.
Anything else you want to talk about? Nope not really.

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? I'm tired!  Emotionally ready but have things left to do and still too early for healthy, so...

Have you looked into any natural induction methods? I take Evening Primrose Oil 500mg orally and 1000mg vaginally, I am doing yoga on my own/stretching to prepare pelvis, align baby, etc.  I've warned dh about our upcoming sex marathon in the weeks to come ;)
Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? Very excited, nervous about getting last minute things completed, getting my breast pump, FMLA papers

Anything else you want to talk about?  So exciting to see all the lo's on our board, it's not even March1st!

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? Better than last posting - we have hired a doula who likes our OB and vice versa.  We have a home visit with her next week.  I also now own the "Hypnobirthing" book.  I hope I'll get a chance to read it this weekend.

Have you looked into any natural induction methods?  I'm not too worried about this yet, but I'm planning on eating a lot of dates in the next few weeks.  If I go past 40 weeks my doctor has offered to strip my membranes.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?  Not yet, but I'm sure the panic will set it soon enough.

Anything else you want to talk about?  Yesterday my doctor told me that she's willing to let me go to 42 weeks.  That seems reasonable, but I don't know that I want to be super pregnant for five more weeks!  Maybe I'll start eating dates sooner rather than later.

Finally got ALL the supplies ready - towels, table cloth, hydrogen peroxide, etc. So we are good to go.

Have you looked into any natural induction methods?
Not thinking about it yet. I don't feel nearly as desperate as I did with my other kids to get this baby out, so I am good just waiting for now. I have used castor oil (per midwife suggestion) in the past and will again if I get to 1.5 weeks post DD. Otherwise, the man and I are still having sex on average every other day right now so that will hopefully help. :)

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?

Excited to have a baby, worried about life after baby! It's been a LONG time.

Wishing all of you the very best!

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? I'm anxious.  I haven't been keeping up with my HypnoBabies over concern that I wasn't feeling what I should be, hopefully I'll get back into it this weekend.

Have you looked into any natural induction methods?  I've been eating dates everyday for the past week & 2 cups of RRL tea - hoping to get my uterus in gear a bit.  No other natural induction plans, but as of

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?  Not really, my biggest fear is tearing - been planning to star perineal massage for a week now, but haven't done it yet.

Anything else you want to talk about?   Baby seems to still be posterior, I'm sitting on the birthing ball a bit everyday & have been seeing a chiropractor - but just nervous about it.

    Birth Center birth
How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
Pretty good. I'm nearing the point where I just want it to be over with. And I'm starting the internal panic of "what happens if I go into labor while DH is OOT, and it takes too long to get to the BC?!" We're a little over an hour away and my last birth only took like 3 hrs, so I'm a teeeny bit worried about that!
Have you looked into any natural induction methods?
Yes. I'll probably be taking labor prep (mix of herbs my midwife recommends) after 37 weeks. With my last birth, I was 4 cm, 40 weeks, and my midwife decided to strip my membranes, dose me up on LP, and send me walking. 3 hrs later we were meeting our daughter! So I'm kind of hoping to do that again...
Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?
Excited that my 2 yr old decided to start potty training this week- I might just have one babe in diapers after all!! Worried a little about adjusting to life with 3. Mostly still just excited about that too though. Really glad to start my maternity leave (or permanent leave lol) March 1st.
Anything else you want to talk about?
Not really. Just can't wait to start hearing birth stories from the med-free birthers!

  • How far along are you/what team? 34 weeks 5 days

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? We're doing two L&D visits this week, so I'm feeling pretty good about knowing where to park and all that (we have an HMO so we can choose between a number of different area med centers). I started on my state disability and work leave of absence paperwork this week, too, so that makes me feel a bit less panicked about how I'm going to get paid while I'm out.

Have you looked into any natural induction methods? As per Ina May, when it comes to the end we're going to go with lots of sex and nipple stimulation! Also probably lots of heavy chocolate cake, as that did it for my mom both times, and me last time.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? I'm worried a bit about where we'll deliver. Even if we decide we like one center over another, there's no guarantee they'll have space for us when I go into labor, and I may have to be redirected somewhere else. It could mean an hour or more in the car, in labor, which sounds like torture.

Anything else you want to talk about? I hope everyone on this check-in has seen the press release made by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists earlier this week, about normalizing longer labor in order to cut down on unnecessary c-sections! I hope it will be comforting to other moms having med-free birth in a hospital setting.

  • How far along are you/what team? 36+2, Team Green, Med Free Hospital

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
Pretty good, I kinda took a week off from my hypnobabies home study because I was busy, so I'm working on finishing up week 4 and starting week 5 next week. I feel pretty ready as far as having at the stuff for baby, but I have a list of things I'd *like* to accomplish before the baby arrives and it's starting to make me anxious- though I don't expect this kid any time before my due date so I still have about a month left.

Have you looked into any natural induction methods?
I've been drinking NORA tea since 16-ish weeks and started eating dates this week. My MW is giving me a printout at my appointment Monday with their recommendations. So we'll see what else to add.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?
Getting everything done before baby comes! I called our insurance to see about getting the windshield replaced because a tiny spot has spread due to this ridiculous ice storm/ 70 degree weather we've been having and the earliest appointment they had was Friday...March 14th. So guess we'll be finding someone else to replace it. Still need to finish up a few more freezer meals, deeeep clean my house, get some post partum supplies, and detail the car/ install the car seat base. Oh and finish packing my hospital bags (which are about 90% done). And print out my birth plan. And convince DH that I *really* need a woven wrap ;) And....

Anything else you want to talk about?
Nah, I pretty much covered it all. I'm excited to read some med free mama's birth stories soon!

Better. Prepared mostly for the birth (have the kit, have some of the other stuff together necessary, have the home visit scheduled for next week), but feeling unprepared about having a new BABY at home. Eek.

Have you looked into any natural induction methods?
...35 weeks... And I'm not ready to have another baby, nope nope, please stay in. Like, until April, maybe?

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?
In regards to the home birth, not really. Maybe logistics of how everything will go with my son here (a friend will be here to watch him though).

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? The birth pool is blown up, the flameless candles are all ready, we have the entire kit that we need, now we just need to keep the baby cooking as long as possible. Midwife is hoping for at least another week or two, if we can!

Have you looked into any natural induction methods? Nope, I have my babies super early, so I look for ways NOT to go into labor! LOL

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? Just want little boy to cook as long as possible so that we won't have to transfer to a hospital after birth, hopefully!

Anything else you want to talk about? I'm a bit nervous, even though this is my fourth time giving birth. When we blew up the pool, I was like, holy shit, I'm going to be in there giving birth again, with NO DRUGS! I'm also having tons of early labor, lots of really painful contractions and cramps, and it hurts, so I'm worried that I'll be worn out by the time active labor starts, which I always am with my babies.

Prep? Eh, I have DS's clothes from a year ago, I have size 1 diapers and I have boobs. What more could I need?!?!

Natural induction? Nothing worked for me last time.
This time LO is breech, so they won't let me deliver vaginally (only 2 of the 11 docs on staff are trained to deliver vaginal breech, so if neither is at hospital, I will get a c-section)

Worried about anything? Ending up with a c-section...definitely would like to avoid.
Excited? Having a bit of time off work before baby. (I didn't work past 30 weeks with either of my other pregnancies)

I'm sorry! That must be do disappointing. So is the c-section just due to size? I had big babies but did fine (4 kids all between 10-11 pounds) but I understand with GD sometimes things are more complicated. Just wish you had more options than scheduling the surgery.

Prep: well I finally have my bag together for the most part! Still need a few things but we could definitely make it out at the door and to the hospital with essentials now! Still want to get some oils and need to dig out mine and Hs bathing suits for the birthing tub. Everything at home is ready for baby except the diaper situation.. We are CDing but not for te first 10 days so I need to prep and prewash our CDs and buy some newborn sposies.

    Natural induction methods: no not
Really.. Just the usual "getting busy" and maybe some clary sage oil but unless we are getting 41+ weeks and the DRs are pushing me I'm just going to try and let the process unfold ok it's own.

Otherwise.. Babies position hasn't been checked and I have a long list of questions for OB on Monday that I keep forgetting about! I get all caught up in the office. Not this time...
I can't believe this pregnancy is coming to and end! So crazy.

We had a trial run this weekend but contractions slowed at the hospital. I work on my feet all day and I'm hoping tomorrow is my last day, I may work next Saturday but I need to listen to my body and take it slow. I would hate to have to leave LO at NICU and not get to bring him home right away. Of course.. Every day at work is another day at home with baby.

Thank you! It's the gestational diabetes plus his size. It is estimated to be about 9 pounds 8 oz which is very close to the point where ACOG recommends a c section when GD exists.

  • How far along are you/what team? 36w today, team blue!

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? I'm feeling good. I started practicing some painfull massages with DH (Bonapace method) and it's working well so far. There are more massages I want to practice though.

Have you looked into any natural induction methods? Not really... Baby will come when baby is ready! I started drinking raspberry leaves though to help toning my uterus for contractions.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? So excited! We had the hospital tour last night, and both DH and I really enjoyed the visit. I got to see all the material we can use to help manage pain naturally and we saw the baths. When we left I told DH I was ready now to have this baby, so he said he wanted to help pack our hospital bag today!
  • How far along are you/what team?

    38 weeks- team green!

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?

I keep wondering if there's more I should do. But I practice my breathing whenever I think of it, and on the rare occasion I notice a BH contraction. I'm kind of worried that I'm going to have a really hard time because I haven't been exercising. I don't really know how much difference that would make, but it's too late to do much about it now!

Have you looked into any natural induction methods?

Not really. I've heard the basics- walking, sex, spicy food, castor oil (yuck!)... at this point I'm not really interested in trying to induce labor. Maybe once my mom arrives later this week I'll start thinking about ways to get things moving.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?

I'm worried about the initial start of labor. I have no idea how it will feel, what to expect, how quickly or gradually it will progress. I know the biology and the "normal" progression on the materials from our hospital... but it could be totally different for me. Will I lose my cool and freak the hell out? Will I feel more comfortable at home or will I beg to go to the hospital for peace of mind? I'm just not sure what my experience will be and what will be going through my mind.

    GREEN to PINK on 3.14.14
  • 39 weeks today! (eek!) team blue, med-free hospital

My doctor seemed to think that because I'd had quite a bit of cervical progression even 3 weeks ago that she didn't even seem to think I'd make it to my due date. But here I am... now more firmly in the camp of "dilation means nothing!!!" Plus, I've actually been quite comfortable for the past couple weeks (so I'm not even all that anxious to get him out!), so at this point I'm really not even thinking about any natural induction methods. I'm mentally prepared to go at least another week!

My mental preparation has been really up and down the past few weeks... Several weeks ago he rotated from OA to OP, (I think I might have talked about this in the last check-in,) but while my doctor isn't concerned at all, my doula is convinced this will make me have a long and difficult labor, and the interwebs give such conflicting advice and anecdotes (and the majority of statistics do show evidence that OP labors are longer, harder, more likely to end in c/s, more likely to have 3rd/4th tearing, etc.) So I've been kind of depressed about that. But there does seem to be a pretty good chance of the baby turning during labor, especially if you're being proactive (trying different positions like lunges, etc.) I've been trying lots of things now, like a lot of time on hands and knees and butt in the air, but lots of the exercises seem like they might be more effective during labor, when you have the motion of the contractions to help move the baby? I did read an interesting study yesterday that talked about the high success rate of manually rotating the baby (once fully dilated, by turning his head...) but that has to be done by someone who knows what they're doing, and with an u/s to know exactly where everything is, etc, so I'm kind of curious if such a person will be available at the hospital, like, I want to ask my doctor at my next appointment if this is something that's done "regularly." (I wonder if doctors even recognize that an OP baby is stuck and can be manually rotated, etc?)

Sorry this is such a brain dump... I've just been struggling with feelings of "I didn't do enough and that's why he's in a less-than-ideal position," and I'm really worried about how I will feel if this results in a c/s for me. Some of the websites I've been reading have been making me feel better, by pointing out that maybe it isn't helpful to emphasize proper posture so much, b/c then how does that make a woman feel who does everything she can but still has an OP baby? Like it was her fault, even though it may not have been. So, I guess only time will tell. I know there's a million things that can go "wrong" in labor, and I really hope that I can mentally accept that all I really want is a healthy baby and healthy self, and medical interventions are GOOD if necessary!
    imageimage
  • @lalaith50 A bunch of the docs I work with manually rotate OP to OA on a regular basis with really good results, and I've never seen them use an ultrasound. I'm not even sure what you'd need the u/s for? I'd definitely ask your doctor if he/she is comfortable with manual rotation. A good OB (and most L&D nurses) can tell if a baby is OP based on feeling the position of the soft spots on baby's head, the contraction pattern and where mom is feeling her contractions.

Andplusalso it is often possible to deliver OP if baby doesn't rotate, it usually just means a longer pushing stage.

  • @lalaith50 - just in my experience some babies like being OP...like DS!  Do you have an anterior placenta by any chance?  Supposedly that can make a difference and I had an anterior placenta for him.  DS wasn't actually OP that often, he shifted around quite a bit toward the end, but that's how he came out.  My midwife had explained that for some babies, if they don't have to turn (if there's enough room in your pelvis) they just won't bother.  It made pushing harder on me, but overall I don't think my contractions were any worse.

Something to ask about during labor, if he doesn't turn, is if your cervix is also posterior.  For DS, I labored ALL day making almost no progress because my cervix was posterior.  When my midwife checked me and saw that it was an issue, she was able to manually move my cervix into a normal position and stretch me from 2cm-5cm in two contractions.  I was at 10 within an hour or so after that.

I've heard that the chances of a c-section are higher, but I honestly think a lot depends on the knowledge of your OB/midwife.  It seemed to me like my midwife knew exactly what to do to help my labor progress and even though I had to push for 2 hours, I managed to have a great home birth with a 9lb, 5oz posterior baby with no tearing and the recovery was a breeze.

If you haven't played before/aren't on the list, what kind of birth are you planning (home, BC, med free hospital)?
I replied last week but don't think I've been added yet.... med-free hospital for me

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
I thought I was feeling pretty good but then at our weekly appt yesterday I went from being a pregnancy unicorn (seriously, last appt the nurse called me a ideal patient) to being diagnosed with pre-e and being put on modified bedrest - complete shocker for DH and I!! We were sent to L&D for monitoring and were able to go home but there was a time when they were talking inducting and that totally caught us off guard; we realized we're not as ready as we were thinking. Sooo.... This weekend we're revamping our prep list and will work to knock that out in the next few days to a week

Have you looked into any natural induction methods?
Just the standard ones. We're completely against castor oil and at the hospital yesterday my modified bedrest instructions include no sexual activity, so that's out. Will bounce on my ball when I get a little closer, March 3rd would be the earliest as that is 37w but I'm desperately hoping to avoid induction as I've heard that makes it so much more painful

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?
Only worried about above mentioned bedrest and risk of LO coming too soon.

  • I just bought Traditional Medicinal organic RRL tea from Target.  The EPO I think is NatureMade from CVS? (for those of you that don't have health food stores around!)

  • @bennieangel - I'm drinking Traditional Medicinals Organic Raspberry Leaf tea & loving it.  I'm not a tea drinking & I was fully prepared to add tons of honey to make this taste good, but I really don't need it at all.

  • Just a reminder... homebirth, team green, 36.5 weeks-ish

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
Don't have a hospital bag packed yet... But the diaper bag is ready! One of my goals this weekend was to finish putting the birth kit together, but a false alarm kinda threw that plan off. Now I'm taking it easy.

Have you looked into any natural induction methods?
Sex and walking seem to work for me! Had about 6 hours of (BH?) contractions the other day after doing both. Oops! Just trying to hold out a week or two more!

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?
I'm excited that I think I know how to get contractions started, but still a little worried it won't work. My mom is coming at the end of the month and I want to have a baby to show her! Also, my midwife does the big Home Visit appointment this Saturday. Things are happening!

Anything else you want to talk about?
  • How far along are you/what team? 39 weeks! Team ding dong (still refuse to call team blue since green was pried away from me)

If you haven't played before/aren't on the list, what kind of birth are you planning (home, BC, med free hospital)? Med Free Hospital

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? Good!  Contractions pretty steady for last 24 hours and not really what I would consider painful, more just uncomfortable like working out when you are sore from a previous days work out.  At 4 cm, decided to go back into work and let things happen.

Have you looked into any natural induction methods? Yes, but it looks like I'm underway so I'm thinking I may not have to fall back on those

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? Worried that I'm going to wait too long before heading back in.  I don't want to have the baby in the car!!! Excited that it looks like I'll see my little one this week.

Anything else you want to talk about? I swear if this pulls back I'm going to scream (I've had false labors for 2 weeks, though this is the longest stint and the 1st time it prompted me to go to L&D)

**If you've had your baby/babies, how did it go?***

    37weeks 5days Team Blue

    birth center

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
Good! My bag is packed and the diaper bag is almost done being packed. I am more just anxious now.. I hate that I am already complaining of being 'done' since I haven't even made it to full term 39 weeks yet :( but I am just so impatient.
we had our last meeting with the doula and she is impressed with how prepared we are so she and my midwives have no concerns

Have you looked into any natural induction methods? I have.. but haven't tried anything and I doubt I will until I hit 40 weeks. I am looking into the trigger points of massage that can induce labor. My midwife mentioned castor oil after my dd but I told her I was not comfortable with that.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?
excited to meet our boy and not be huge and pregnant anymore. Although I know I will miss it. I won't miss all the back pain :(
And I'm getting super anxious for the details of the big day and how everything is going to play out. Two words 'my mom'. I plan on her being at the birth (because I would probably never hear the end of it if she wasn't. I already get so much shit from her because we aren't telling them the name until birth) but I literally want to tell her that she can just sit quietly in the corner. And not to take any pictures because she always ends up bitching about her phone while she is trying to take pics because its slow or blah blah and its just annoying. Yes this stupid detail has been bothering me. I don't need or want her bitching in the background of any video being taken by my husband or Doula

  • ...my cervix was posterior.  When my midwife checked me and saw that it was an issue, she was able to manually move my cervix into a normal position and stretch me from 2cm-5cm in two contractions.  I was at 10 within an hour or so after that. ...

I have no idea if it's common or not, but it worked! It was a little uncomfortable, but didn't hurt any worse than the contraction. What sucked was after she had us do nipple stimulation between contractions and then squat during each one to keep the pressure on my cervix and make sure I kept dilating. It was a rough hour or so since I dilated so fast!

  • How far along are you/what team? 35+ weeks/team blue

If you haven't played before/aren't on the list, what kind of birth are you planning (home, BC, med free hospital)? hospital, requesting a med free water birth

How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? I've read at least half of our HypnoBirthing book & had our first class last week. My husband is completely on board... we just need to start making the time to do our homework/practice!! Also need to re confirm and remind my OB about my birth plan/desires, so need to get that down on paper to give to him...

Have you looked into any natural induction methods? No, though I've started to drink some raspberry tea which is supposed to help pregnant women with birthing.

Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? Just being ready. Lots of details to finish up and do.

Anything else you want to talk about? This is my first and it's still a blur & apart unbelievable that we're pregnant and having a baby boy in a few short weeks... oh how our lives will change!! Plus I have some family members that think we should get rid of our puppy because of our son. I just can't imagine doing that!!
