  • I don't mind. I think it's because I just love my oregnancy body and if someone wants to feel the belly, no worries. I don't think more than one person ever touched without asking though.

  • I think I must give off a bad vibe or have bitchy resting face. I've never had someone come after my belly or my newborn and try to touch.

I honestly don't care. I mean, not now, don't rub my chub, but an actual baby bump, sure.

I won't know until I'm in the actual situation but I think I'll mostly allow it. Growing up as a redhead people asked all the time if they could touch my hair, and being Hispanic my grandma always let some one touch my hair if they asked. I know it's odd but it's an old superstition to avoid Ojo or "the evil eye". As much as I hate to admit it, that weird superstition has rubbed off on me.

  • I don't like people rubbing my belly (husband can if he wants), it feels condescending if anyone aside from my husband does it.

On a side note I get kind of annoyed by pregnant women that constantly rub their own bellies especially when they don't even really have a belly! Like they are trying to get people to ask if they are pregnant. I don't even run my own belly, unless it's by accident.

  • SS here. In general, Dont touch me. But if you are my mom or someone I'm close to you can touch, but I prefer you ask first. If you are a stranger and you try to touch me (I've never had this happen, but I've read a lot of stories) you better watch yourself, I may throat punch you.

Of course in PA, it's illegal to touch a pregnant woman's belly without permission.

  • I originally picked SS because I couldn't figure out what the hell you were talking about.

Then I read some posts...no way strangers can rub my belly. Yuck. My DH and my mom were the only ones who touched me last time.

  • I don't even have a baby bump (i must have a glow or something that old people see, or maybe it's an "I'm pregnant" sign on my back) but twice on two different occasions (once before I even knew I was pregnant) old women came and asked me to rub my belly for good luck, and I let them though I was very hesitant with the first one because like I said I had no clue I was pregnant. But I don't mind as long as they ask first. Once the baby is born though, there will be NO touching!
  • During my first pregnancy I thought I would hate it if anyone touched my belly, but  1) very few people actually did and 2) it didn't bother me when they did.

Now, if it were a stranger - that's another story. If you wouldn't touch my arm while we're talking, there's no way you're touching my belly. But this is still a few months down the road. There's no bump yet.

  • Special snowflake: totally depends on the person. Husband, mom, sister = yes. Anyone else = a big fat no.
    This.

  • The idea totally weirded me out during my first pregnancy, but once it actually started happening, it didn't bother me when friends or family touched my bump.  Coworkers?  Um no.  Basically if we hug etc each other under normal circumstances, I don't mind belly touching if you ask first.

TOTALLY weirded out about people touching DD when she was a baby, though, esp because she was a preemie and I was very diligent about making people wash hands/use sanitizer/throw a burp cloth over their outside clothes before they touched her.

  • I live in a place where a large part of the population is white female christians (the south), and have heard/seen many horror stories regarding this very subject. I'm a little irked when I am obviously pregnant as to how I'll handle the situation, b/c I do NOT like people touching me. at all. I'm not even a girlfriend hugger. and I work the sales floor in a grocery store every saturday, so .... that's going to be a nightmare.

for those of you who have already been through this, how would you guard your bubble w/o offending people?

I live in the same type of environment.  When I told my ILs and my family that I didn't want to be rubbed, they cried. I'm not sure how I'm going to manage this one.

  • @riveradove Also, here in MY south we have a couple of boys, even an African American or two and someone isn't a Christian, I'm sure of it.

Just wait until the black, male atheist wants to touch your belly. They are the ooey gooeyest about babies.

  • I'm worried about the older ladies at church touching without asking, but I don't have much of a bubble with people I speak or hang out with regularly. Maybe its because I'm a hugger. We have a group of friends at church who are all around the same age/phase of life so I actually have a bunch of pregnant friends right now. I would not mind any of these people touching or rubbing once I have a baby belly (can I just say that I'm so looking forward to the baby belly taking over this bloat belly?). Family, even extended family, I wouldn't mind too much, even if they don't ask, although I would prefer extended family ask. I really don't have much of a bubble, except with strangers. Absolutely no strangers can touch or rub the belly. I think I'll be the type to offer to let friends touch when baby is kicking because I always want to feel other's babies kicking but never ask because I don't want to offend or have things get weird.
