Always tired/lethargic

I am getting so frustrated. My iron is low but i top up with iron pills, my thirod is fine. I get a solid 7+ hours of sleep at night. I exercise regularly (doing insanity for the past 7 weeks) i have been eating really well for the past 7 weeks. And yet i still just want to do nothing all the time. getting down to play with Ds is tiring. I get bored easily because i feel so lethergic. I know part of it is probably the weather. But i can't change that.

Any tips/suggestions? Or even anyone feeling the same?

Re: Always tired/lethargic

  • I feel the same alot.  I take Vitamin B Complex and try to drink a lot of water.  I also feel like the more I am moving around, outside, etc the more energy I have.  If I start the day lazy, sitting around on the couch, I will likely spend the whole day feeling blah and not being productive.
Could you be depressed at all?  When I'm in a funky state of mind (as I call it)...I tend to be much more lethargic and out of it.
    Feel better!!

  • aw I'm sorry.

I had this issue but it was my thyroid.

Do you drink coffee or tea? Maybe a little latte pick me up?

Are you getting too much sleep? for me 6 hours is perfect. Anything more and I feel super tired.

Is your period due? Could you be pregnant?

Could you have....WTF is it called.... ::goes to google:: seasonal affective disorder? One becomes depressed from lack of sunlight, and it's common in the winter months. My sister has it. She has to sit in front of a special lamp for 20 minutes a day.

My mom has this too. She moved to FL after 40+ years up north. Now it's a non issue.
  • I was thinking it might be S.A.D. as well because it does get worse in the winter and this winter has been especially bad with the bitter cold and wind chills. I did go through a bad depression after Ds was born and am prone to depression. I am going to talk to my therapist about it tomorrow.

Defiantly not pregnant. But i am pmsing right now which makes it worse

I have a Dr appt in April. I will have here do a check of everything. And really stress how much it impacts my life.

I don't drink coffee and only tea occasionally. Maybe i should drink more tea?

I just wish i had the energy to keep up with my very active Ds. I don't know where he get it. Lol. I do play with him during the day... Just not to the extent i *think* i should.

  • I don't think i snore (dh would tell me). But i dream a lot and moat of them are highly emotional so i wake up stressed out from them. I will ask my doctor about that as well.

Dh and i both want to have another kid, but with my lack of energy we don't know how we would manage it. It is really heart breaking for me.

Oh and i do get one time alone every couple of weeks. But it seems to just remind me how nice it was to be lazy before kids and i end up more tired after Ds is home again. Haha

  • Have them check your vitamin D levels when you go in, it's a blood test.

My H was you to the max, and he went in and had 399 things tested and came back with VERY low vitamin D.  After a few months on a supplement, he's not tired at ALL.  He would always drag, wanna nap, get so tired at work, etc.  He's a new man.

  • This describes me 100% and it turned out, for me, to be gluten.

Once I eliminated it (16 days ago!), it only took 3 days for all of that lethargy to disappear. I kid you not. I blogged about it every day: https://notyourmamasmartha.blogspot.com/p/losing-wheat-belly.html

I was constantly "crashing"/exhausted/uninterested/bored every 90-120 minutes because I was consuming gluten at every meal and most snacks.

Good luck at your appointment and maybe give this a try! :)

  • It might be gluten for me as well... Hmmm... I will look into that. About 5 weeks ago I stopped eating cereal everyday and that helped a bit. Maybe i should try and cut more gluten.

@sallyannes - it's the most effective way to control blood sugar highs & lows and it's most recommended for anyone without any real health problems. More like what you are describing, should all your tests come back okay. :) I sleep SO good I can't even describe it. I have endless energy, I'm never shaky, have headaches or feel tired, I even lost 4lbs the first two weeks - all in my stomach.

  • As others have mentioned, have your thyroid checked and see if it would be a gluten issue...also, maybe have a stress test done.
