Re: **Home Birth/Med Free/Birth Center Check-In** 2/21
How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? I'm feeling good about things. I've prepared as much as I can at this point.
Have you looked into any natural induction methods? Not really, maybe ask me again in a week if she is still in there.
Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? I'm excited and anxious for her to arrive. I am worried that if I go early and feel anything like I do right now that my plans are going to go out the window. I can't imagine giving birth at the moment, as much as I am so over being pregnant. I am completely exhausted, so she needs to stay put until I get enough rest and strength.
Anything else you want to talk about? Nope not really.
ETA: forgot to answer a question.
Team Denial
35 Weeks / Blue
Better. Prepared mostly for the birth (have the kit, have some of the other stuff together necessary, have the home visit scheduled for next week), but feeling unprepared about having a new BABY at home. Eek.
...35 weeks... And I'm not ready to have another baby, nope nope, please stay in. Like, until April, maybe?
In regards to the home birth, not really. Maybe logistics of how everything will go with my son here (a friend will be here to watch him though).
DS #2 - 4/2/14
Prep? Eh, I have DS's clothes from a year ago, I have size 1 diapers and I have boobs. What more could I need?!?!
Natural induction? Nothing worked for me last time.
This time LO is breech, so they won't let me deliver vaginally (only 2 of the 11 docs on staff are trained to deliver vaginal breech, so if neither is at hospital, I will get a c-section)
Worried about anything? Ending up with a c-section...definitely would like to avoid.
Excited? Having a bit of time off work before baby. (I didn't work past 30 weeks with either of my other pregnancies)
Either way I wish you a positive birth experience!
My waters broke while on hospital bedrest at 11:00 pm. DH had gone home for the night (DS was staying with my parents) so I called him back to the hospital. I started having mild contractions that stayed irregular and mild through the night. I was kept in bed and on monitors right until delivery.
The next morning the started pitocin to try to get my contractions to regulate, I already had an IV for GBS. Because of the risk of c-section for twin B I agreed to let them place and test an epidural, and they agreed to run it at a non-effective dose so it wasn't working but was available in case of emergency. I got it placed around 11:00 am (after 12 hours of irregular labour) and I HATED it. The test dose made my legs numb and pins-and-needles. For me it was the worst part of the labour, I was very glad when it finally wore of an hour later.
They finally checked me around 2pm and I was unchanged from the 7 cm I'd been for weeks. There were forewaters on Twin A, so they ruptured those. They kept increasing the pitocin but my contractions didn't get any better.
By 6:30pm the new OB came on and checked me again, still no change and A's head was high. She said she was willing to give me two more hours before she'd take me for a c-section, or I could opt for one then. I asked to keep labouring. Within 5 minutes of her leaving the room if felt A drop into my pelvis (ouch!) and my contractions went from mild to super intense! I was rechecked at 7pm and was just about fully dilated.
I got rushed down the hall to the OR where they delivery all twins. They kept telling me not to push because the team wasn't there yet. From the time everyone arrived to Twin A (Rhys) was about half an hour. Then twin B (Audrey) took another hour and sixteen minutes. She tried to come out with her head sideways, then turned sunny-side up. Afterwards I had some extra bleeding and a manual exploration (basically became a human hand puppet) which was uncomfortable but not as bad as I thought it would be. Then I had my tear repaired with some local anaesthetic.
It might not have gone quite perfectly, but it was as close to unmedicated as my OB felt comfortable with for twins. I was happy with how things went and so glad they got here safely (and that I avoided a section!). Sorry it's so long!
Prep: well I finally have my bag together for the most part! Still need a few things but we could definitely make it out at the door and to the hospital with essentials now! Still want to get some oils and need to dig out mine and Hs bathing suits for the birthing tub. Everything at home is ready for baby except the diaper situation.. We are CDing but not for te first 10 days so I need to prep and prewash our CDs and buy some newborn sposies.
Natural induction methods: no not
Really.. Just the usual "getting busy" and maybe some clary sage oil but unless we are getting 41+ weeks and the DRs are pushing me I'm just going to try and let the process unfold ok it's own.
Otherwise.. Babies position hasn't been checked and I have a long list of questions for OB on Monday that I keep forgetting about! I get all caught up in the office. Not this time...
I can't believe this pregnancy is coming to and end! So crazy.
We had a trial run this weekend but contractions slowed at the hospital. I work on my feet all day and I'm hoping tomorrow is my last day, I may work next Saturday but I need to listen to my body and take it slow. I would hate to have to leave LO at NICU and not get to bring him home right away. Of course.. Every day at work is another day at home with baby.
After a day of nesting on Wednesday and a night at the county fair, I went home and went to sleep feeling completely normal.
I woke up Thursday to pee and thought I peed myself a little which hasn't ever happened in two pregnancies. After I went to the bathroom it kept coming and I realized it was my water. Cue mild freak out! I was only 37+5 and DD was born 40+3. We were not ready!
I texted hubby and told him my water broke and he came home around 7. I started timing contractions around 8. They started out a minute long and 5 minutes apart. We did a little cleaning and MIL came to pick up DD. We left for the birth center around 9:30 and arrived at 10:45. The midwife checked me at 11:15 and I was 3cm, 80% effaced and -1 station. Contractions picked up really quickly and I got in the tub around 1:15 and my body start pushing an hour later at 2:15. Baby boy was born at 2:47 at 9lbs 8oz, 21.5" and a 14.5" head circumference. We were all shocked at his size! (DD was 8lbs 9oz, 19.5" and 14.5" head at over 40 weeks). Also as a side note... I had gestational diabetes and was GBS+ with DD but had neither with DS.
He is nursing awesome and I feel so, so, much better than I did after my hospital birth. DS's birth was much faster but also much more intense than DD's. I'm really happy with our choice to use a birth center and have a natural birth.... but I'm not ready to do it again any time soon.
Andplusalso it is often possible to deliver OP if baby doesn't rotate, it usually just means a longer pushing stage.
35w5d, team blue!!
If you haven't played before/aren't on the list, what kind of birth are you planning (home, BC, med free hospital)?
I replied last week but don't think I've been added yet.... med-free hospital for me
How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
I thought I was feeling pretty good but then at our weekly appt yesterday I went from being a pregnancy unicorn (seriously, last appt the nurse called me a ideal patient) to being diagnosed with pre-e and being put on modified bedrest - complete shocker for DH and I!! We were sent to L&D for monitoring and were able to go home but there was a time when they were talking inducting and that totally caught us off guard; we realized we're not as ready as we were thinking. Sooo.... This weekend we're revamping our prep list and will work to knock that out in the next few days to a week
Have you looked into any natural induction methods?
Just the standard ones. We're completely against castor oil and at the hospital yesterday my modified bedrest instructions include no sexual activity, so that's out. Will bounce on my ball when I get a little closer, March 3rd would be the earliest as that is 37w but I'm desperately hoping to avoid induction as I've heard that makes it so much more painful
Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?
Only worried about above mentioned bedrest and risk of LO coming too soon.
Anything else you want to talk about?
At 4:15 I woke up to a pretty strong contraction. I had another one about 15 minutes later so I decided to start timing them. They were lasting about a minute but were 10-15 minutes apart. They were completely in my back, and not wrapping around to the front like they did with DS so I figured I was in the early stages still.
Around 5:30 I woke up DH because I really had to breathe through the contractions. He called his brother and asked him to take DS to daycare. I continued to have contractions about 7-10 minutes apart, but I had to move to all fours and I was quietly moaning through them.
BIL arrived at 7 and it took about a half hour to get DS ready and out the door. In the meantime my contractions had dropped to 30-45 seconds long but about 4-6 minutes apart. As soon as they left we decided to call the midwives and let them know we were on our way to the hospital.
DS birth was about 10 hours of active labor and we got to the hospital with 30 minutes to spare. We were told not to stay home too long this time because labor would most likely go much quicker.
As soon as we got on the highway I hit transition. Thank goodness we were going the opposite direction of traffic because it was morning rush hour!
We got to the hospital and I got out the car and I immediately squatted down. The baby was right there and there was no way I was going to be able to walk to L&D. DH got someone to bring me a wheel chair and I was rushed to L&D. They took my name and put me right in a room. My midwife walked in the door just as we got there. As soon as I stood up my water broke and I really had to push. They got me undressed checked me and listened to the baby for a minute and then I started pushing. She came out with 3 pushes.
According to my delivery notes, she was born within 8 minutes of getting into the room. Even though everything happened so fast, the atmosphere was quite calm.
Contractions were so different this time around. With DS I was in active labor for a much longer period of time and the contractions were much more intense and started in my back and wrapped around to my stomach. They also were much longer. This time they were only in my (she wasn't posterior) and were only about 45 seconds.
With both labors I just embraced the contractions and told myself I could do anything for a minute and I visualized my cervix opening with each contraction.
Recovery has been a breeze and they sent us home after 24 hours.

If you haven't played before/aren't on the list, what kind of birth are you planning (home, BC, med free hospital)?
birth center
How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep?
Good! My bag is packed and the diaper bag is almost done being packed. I am more just anxious now.. I hate that I am already complaining of being 'done' since I haven't even made it to full term 39 weeks yet
we had our last meeting with the doula and she is impressed with how prepared we are so she and my midwives have no concerns
Have you looked into any natural induction methods? I have.. but haven't tried anything and I doubt I will until I hit 40 weeks. I am looking into the trigger points of massage that can induce labor. My midwife mentioned castor oil after my dd but I told her I was not comfortable with that.
Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now?
excited to meet our boy and not be huge and pregnant anymore. Although I know I will miss it. I won't miss all the back pain
And I'm getting super anxious for the details of the big day and how everything is going to play out. Two words 'my mom'. I plan on her being at the birth (because I would probably never hear the end of it if she wasn't. I already get so much shit from her because we aren't telling them the name until birth) but I literally want to tell her that she can just sit quietly in the corner. And not to take any pictures because she always ends up bitching about her phone while she is trying to take pics because its slow or blah blah and its just annoying. Yes this stupid detail has been bothering me. I don't need or want her bitching in the background of any video being taken by my husband or Doula

I have no idea if it's common or not, but it worked! It was a little uncomfortable, but didn't hurt any worse than the contraction. What sucked was after she had us do nipple stimulation between contractions and then squat during each one to keep the pressure on my cervix and make sure I kept dilating. It was a rough hour or so since I dilated so fast!
If you haven't played before/aren't on the list, what kind of birth are you planning (home, BC, med free hospital)? hospital, requesting a med free water birth
How are you feeling at this point in terms of prep? I've read at least half of our HypnoBirthing book & had our first class last week. My husband is completely on board... we just need to start making the time to do our homework/practice!! Also need to re confirm and remind my OB about my birth plan/desires, so need to get that down on paper to give to him...
Have you looked into any natural induction methods? No, though I've started to drink some raspberry tea which is supposed to help pregnant women with birthing.
Are you excited or worried about anything in particular right now? Just being ready. Lots of details to finish up and do.
Anything else you want to talk about? This is my first and it's still a blur & apart unbelievable that we're pregnant and having a baby boy in a few short weeks... oh how our lives will change!! Plus I have some family members that think we should get rid of our puppy because of our son. I just can't imagine doing that!!
