trivets

We just got a new table, and I don't want to ruin it. We tend to bring all of the food over to the table to eat, so I need something to put under it. Right now, I just use a dish towel, and it works 98% of the time. I need something that will work 100% of the time though.

Anyway, I am planning to buy some trivets. Is there any difference between the $7 ones and the $70 ones other than paint chipping off (which I can deal with)? Is that the best thing to prevent hot food from ruining my table? Or should I get something different?

I agree with Hav - rubber/silicone ones are da bomb. I like the non-slip-ness. They're, like, $15 each from my local kitchen store.

We don't put food on our table in this house but I used to have a folding trivet that was nice because you could expand it for more stability under a larger casserole dish or fold it to take up less space. Im pretty sure it was bamboo and from bed bath and beyond.

Yeah, I like silicone ones because they can double as pot holders if you need to grab something out of the oven.

I have some metal looking ones that my Mom bought for me at one of those home party. I love them because I can hang them on the wall as decorations. This way I don't have to have anywhere to store them and they're always close by.

I have no advice for you but I've read the title of this post at least 7 times and each time I read it as Ross from Friends yelling "Pivot! Pivot!". That is all.
