Question for STM

How many teethers will I need or should I have for my little one? I got 8 of them at my baby shower and 4 are the exact same. I know that I'll want one or two in the diaper bag and then one or two at home, but do I really need more than 4? Would it be silly of me to return some of them? T.I.A.!

They can get lost pretty easily so I would hang onto the extras just in case.

You definitely won't be needing any right away. I wouldn't return them, because when they are teething or bored, they're nice to have. They get dropped and dirty so extra of anything never hurts.

You won't really know until your baby starts teething. You want some that can be frozen, and others that are hard rubber with nubs and things to stimulate the gums. DS wouldn't really chew on his (he never took a paci either - I don't think he liked the feel of plastic/rubber in his mouth), but would suck on the frozen ones.

I don't think you'd be wrong to return at least half of what you got, then buy new later if you find that your child needs them.

I'm in the boat that DS1 was never a fan of any type of teether. We do have Sophie the Giraffe and the similar Monkey one from Target that he liked to play with in general from about 4ish months. He got 2 teeth at 7 months and no others until after a year, so I think he was kind of past teethers by then.

I'd don't necessarily think 8 is too many, but I'd probably return the duplicates now and see what your baby likes when they start teething. Then you can buy more if they particularly like one kind. They are kind of like pacis and bottles - babies tend to have an opinion!

I wouldn't return them, just because I'm lazy. However, you won't know until baby starts teething if he/she will actually like teethers at all. My DS never cared for them, and wasn't really bothered by teething.

That being said, babies love putting brightly-colored things in their mouths, so I think it's safe to say they'll get some action. Just maybe not used as intended.

My dd never used them- she wasn't really bothered by teething that we could see- so I haven't gotten any for this one yet. Maybe I'll pick up one of those damn Sophie things if anything.

You never know. My kid hated all teething toys. Never put a single one in his mouth, but he would chew the nipple of his bottles and the straws on his sippy cups to shreds.

Maybe keep 4 and get more when you get to that point if you need more.

Oh I know! I can't believe that thing is meant for babies. My dog loved it, though! My kid ignored it.

Neither of mine liked the teethers frozen or not. They chewed on their paci's and whatever other toy they wanted to shove in their mouth at the time. I'd return most of them.

Sorry to hijack, but how is that Sophie the giraffe not a choking hazard? I see the long neck, and I think gag city. What am I missing here? It must be safe to be so popular.

We have two and that is plenty. Both are the type that you put in the freezer/frig. Baby will chew on whatever when teething so I don't see the need for more than 4.

While visiting our friends with kids, it's been easy to show our dog which toys are for babies and which are for her.

Except for Sophie.

If she so much as sees that thing, she howls up a storm thinking it's hers.
