Water

I know we have discussed giving a small amount of water with solids already.

Any LOs out there that love water?

We just started giving a small amount in a sippy cup after thicker solids. He loves water. He freaks out and cries when we take it away. I don't know if it is the actual water or the sippy cup. It is pretty funny.

My DH drinks a crazy amount of liquids (coffee, beer, water, milk) in a day. Now he thinks DS must have got *it* from him.

Re: Water

  • LO doesn't really know how to use the sippy cup. I gave my mom the small bottle to see if he will drink some water, but I don't want him to keep using the bottle.

I *HATE* drinking water. I drank it when I was pregnant because I had to. I can tolerate it more now, but it also has to be ice cold. I do drink other stuff like iced tea, iced coffee, and juice though.

  • Our LO loves water and his sippy cup. DH doesn't drink water. I literally force him to drink it with crap mixed into it (Crystal Light or Mio). I joke he "gets it" from me. I literally can drink a couple gallons a day.

  • Ds loves the sippy cup because he likes playing with it. Water is ok, but he loves the sippy cup

  • S can't use a sippy cup. It takes to much suction power and she just doesn't have it at this point. I do give her water from my glass and she likes it.

  • DS loves the sippy cup with water.  I just have to make sure he is only getting a little every day so we do not have any issues with nursing. He also loves to drink from a big glass.  He is pretty cute when he grabs it with both hands and sticks those little lips up to my cup.

DS reaches for my glass all the time. The other day I showed him a mug (with water in it) and he put one hand through the handle and held the other side with his other hand. It was really cute.

  • LO isn't a fan of sippy cups or bottles at the moment. I give her one during food time with some water still. She's had a couple sips from them but no more. She will drink it out of a glass though and loves it

  • What kind of sippy cups are you using? I think the one we have may be too hard to use. Its a hard spout with a seal at the end (if that makes sense), you have to use a sucking motion to get the water out. like a sports bottle kinda. He hasn't quite gotten the idea, he just tries to chew on the spout. So i try and show him, but he doesn't get that it's a sucking motion.

I've given him sips of water from a cup and fed him with a straw, he liked it a lot.
  • DD loves her sippy cup and water. To battle constipation I give her about an ounce in a bottle first then she can play with her sippy cup. We have the munchkin trainer ones with the two handles.
  • I have nubys nd they leak, horribley. My sister is loaning me a nuk brand training cup till i get to the store

  • We also have a nuby and we really like it. LO has figured it out which is fantastic. I've never actually tried putting water in it, only BM. Maybe I'll give it a try tonight and see what happens.

  • I tried to use an avent transitional sippy cup thinking she would like it since we use avent bottles and she won't even attempt to use it.

She's picky with her pacifier too, she wouldn't take one til I tried the nuk brand gummy one. So you think I should try the nuk cup? I think she'll love water. She always tries to grab my drinks and I give her some by putting my finger on the end of the straw

  • LO loves his sippy cup. He can't get it in his mouth very well but he loves it none the less.
  • Yup my lo doesn't know how to use a sippy cup either, and she wont drink more than 2 oz
  • I must be in the dark ages. I didn't even know they could have water yet. DD will probably love it! I gave her the sippy cup the other day with a tiny bit of formula and a leftover spoonful of mangos from her dinner. She was intrigued but became frustrated when she couldn't figure out how to get the stuff inside, out.

@sfeebs13 I'm with you, i didn't think we could do water yet. But I'm weirdly nervous about solids anyway, it means my baby is growing up and that breaks my heart a little bit.

  • I need to unpack all the sippy cups from DS1. They are in a box in the basement...I though I had so much time to retrieve them!

I never had much luck with sippies until 9 or 10 months with DS1. He preferred the straw nuby ones. Or the soft spout nuby.

Once he was about 15 months old we used the hard spout playtex sippies. BEST SIPPY CUP EVER. never leaks.

  • I haven't started giving it to LO yet. But will soon.

I despise water.... But since it's required I'll tolerate it.
  • Just for the record.... LO has learned that its fun to throw things while sitting in his high chair because mama will pick it up for him. Well... this is what happens to Nuby sippy cups.....

    image

It completely cracked open. I don't normally complain about that kind of stuff because shit happens, but I did put in form to customer service. We'll see if anything happens. I'm really bummed because he loved his cup and I really liked it as well. But if keeps dropping it on the ground and this happens, I'm finding a different cup.

yes! My LO throws EVERYTHING on the ground while she is in her high chair. Nothing has broke yet, but I'm waiting for the sippy cup to break as well. So far she loves the sippy cup of water, but again, not sure if it's the cup, or the actual water.

  • Just to let you ladies know, I contacted Nuby about the cup. They were superrrr nice and are sending a pre-paid package to send the old cup back as well as a new cup. The woman who emailed me told me they like hearing feedback because they send it to their engineering department to better the product and see what cause the damage.

I'll still take @hauntedradio up on the tether idea though! Thanks again!
