@BlueRidge8

How was your Disney trip? I think you were there a few days before us, right, and maybe we also overlapped a bit? We had amazing weather the whole time! DS was scared of the characters, so no cute pics :( He also seemed kind of overwhelmed by the parks...like he had fun, but wasn't overjoyed or anything. His favorite part was the hotel room, haha. The Boardwalk was freaking awesome to stay at,I absolutely loved it.

Re: @BlueRidge8

  • Aw, thanks for asking! We had your exact trip except exactly the opposite of your trip.

Our weather suuuuccckkeeedd. They were calling for sunny and 80's....until our plane landed and it all went to hell. It was in the 50's the whole time and rainy, but we made the best of it.

DD loved the characters, and she's often afraid of such things. This was good because we somehow dumb-lucked ourselves into meeting all of them.

The only ride she didn't like was the Barnstormer, and that's because it jolted forward a bit to go up the incline and she banged her head against the back of the seat. But my child, who is afraid of our own cat, enjoyed the Haunted Mansion at night - who knew? I gave her about 34 chances to back out of riding it.

The best moment by far was the first night, as we were leaving MK, they started Celebrate the Magic (that thing where they project on the castle) and my kid lost her damn mind with excitement. At one point, overcome with Disney magic or something, she turned to me and yelled "I JUST LOVE YOU SO MUCH"

Oops, novel. Yay Disney. I think we're going back for another short trip in October because they are good at separating me from my cash.

Awe, I was so hoping he'd react like your DD did, especially with the parades. He just kind of stared at them. I guess that's just his personality haha. We skipped the first room at the haunted mansion, and he was a little scared, but not too bad. He really liked the jungle cruise and the animal kingdom safari-the boy loves animals. We probably won't go back for several years though, given his lack of enthusiasm. DH and I kind of want to go alone, haha.

Eta: that pic of your DD and Mickey is so cute!

Yeah there is also discussion of this happening. I just want drinks around the world, yo.

Remind me how old your DS is? Adair was way more into it this trip than when we went last year.

  • Almost 2.5. He's always been reserved at stuff like the zoo and things like that, but I thought he'd be pumped to see his bff, Mickey.

    Drinks around the world-yes!!

Yeah, Adair was 2.5 last March when we went on her first trip (also a short one). The only time I saw her straight up giddy on that trip was for the tea cups and meeting Alice, but she was in the throws of an Alice in Wonderland phase.

    Because I like to illustrate:

But yes, much more "THIS IS AMAZING" this time around.

  • can I jump in, too? We just went to Disney- it was just me, DH and DD (16 months) and holy hell it was exhausting! Still fun, but hopefully next year we'll have some family come with us to give us a little bit of a break.

I think part of it is that DH and I are so used to going alone that we have all this stuff that we want to do and it's hard to give that up to do the slower (more boring) stuff that DD is interested in.  So we were kinda trying to fit 2 trips into 1, if that makes sense.   Although she liked the characters and rides, DD would have been happy if we spent the entire trip letting her play in the small play area underneath Splash Mountain.

We, too, are probably going back sometime in the fall, I have lots of family in the area and they love to see DD, so we'll be in the Orlando area anyway, it just makes sense to tack on a few days at Disney.
  • She's so freaking cute with all her Disney friends!

Yes, @awesomesauce123, it was exhausting and we even had my parents there! We got to do 2 dinners just DH and I and it was glorious. We've been in November before, and the weather was perfect.

@awesomesauce123 I hear you. If we go back in October, it will be when my parents go so I can hand off here and there. I can only take so many repeat rides on tea cups and Aladdin's carpets.

  • @blueridge8 I'm crashing this thread to say I love your DDs name!  It is a family name and I've always wanted to use it.

Aw, thanks! It's so low on the charts that it's rare I hear of another Adair. Her name was inspired by a trip to Adare, Ireland. I'm glad we stuck to it, it just seems to suit her.
