The only reason they started pasteurizing milk was for safe transport and sale to the masses.
My uncles and grandfather were dairy farmers. Unpasteurized milk is safe if consumed and stored correctly. It's not realistic to not pasteurize these days but I would give ANYTHING to have raw milk again.
The bigger concern is the cloning, the feed, insecticides and pesticides, and the steroids that our animals are given and ingesting.

It looks like it may be realistic after all, since those vending machines exist. As a child, I was lucky to grow up on fresh dairy and eggs because we bought straight from a small dairy farm. I would love to have that option for my son now. Maybe it will happen.
Eh. They just say that because the FDA requires milk to be pasteurized. If it's fresh, and you trust the coop to remove milk that is out past a safe date...drink it.

@+just+j+ We use the fresh milk every now and again because it can be expensive.
I miss the UltraPasteraziation process the European's use. Box milk that has never seen a GMO feed or antibiotic/hormone injection or added supplements doesn't need to be raw to be healthier than the American crap.
Also, I would be so happy if we could get the boxed milk easier here. I can get it at the Commissaries, but you have to hunt for them off base. During Hurricane Season, we buy 2 - 3 cases of it and store it with the rest of our supplies.
Though, I am looking at weaning Monkey from milk all together, so it will be a moot point.
You can also pasteurize at home. I have been trying to get a hold of some camel milk to try for myself and will do just this if I can get it. I have done it with goat milk before.
