Where did you find them? We are seriously considering going this route after this baby gets here and I'm not really sure where to start. I'm guessing Care.com would be a good place. Any other suggestions?
I was a nanny for a few families and met on care.com. You have the option of running background checks and clearances so that's nice. I always met the family somewhere public as a first interview though. The site isn't monitored so in reality anyone can make a profile and say they're a caregiver.
Please keep in mind you have to pay taxes on that person as well as obtain an employer ID from your state and pay unemployment taxes on them. It is quite a bit more expensive than just the base pay, and you can (and in my experience will) be audited. Just something to think about.
I was aware of the taxes, but not the employer ID, thanks!. We'll definitely have to sit down and compare all the costs to what we are paying now. It may not be a better solution but something we want to at least look into.
care.com has some things to help make sure you are paying taxes correctly and what not. There is also a way to pay them through the site so you are not just passing cash, which can get a little messy.
Care.com is an awesome site. Always do a back ground check though (care offers this) and call references. I've worked for a few families that have found me from care.
because it didn't fucking snow enough for me to build my own
