I wanted to do blw but my pediatrician said she went to a conference recently and apparently babies who do grains (rice/oatmeal etc) around 4-6 months are less likely to develop celiac disease. I was all against cereal but with that info and DH insistence I relented. DD is almost 5 months and has had cereal for 2 weeks now. I hate solids and am not looking forward to adding real food. Boobs are just soooooo much easier!
We started with rice cereal and he really did not like it. Next I did butternut squash puree, then carrot puree and now we are on avocado puree. I am introducing 1 new food per week. He turns 6 months tomorrow.
We did avacado. Mostly because she was trying to eat it off my salad so I gave her a peice. Then I just started grinding bits up for her when I make dinner.
I'm waiting until the 6 month mark but since it's getting closer I'm getting more anxious about what to do. I plan on talking to his pedi but I think I would like to avoid rice cereal all together.
Started a little cereal and she did not like it. Tried butternut squash last night and she liked it better but she is still not a fan of spoon feeding. Just bought the BLW book and I am waiting for it to get here so I can get familiar with how to start this.
So this might be a really stupid question but I'm a FTM so I need help when you say oatmeal is there a special baby oatmeal or just regular stuff. I'm asking because I didn't want to give rice cereal but oatmeal might be a good idea. TIA!
We started 4 days ago with butternut squash and today they started sweet potatoes and in 4 days we will start carrots.
My twins have silent reflux and are on medication for it but the GI Dr. thought foods would help. We tried thickening feeds first with rice and the oatmeal cereal and it was a constipation disaster!!!!! They have been having some constipation with the solids but nothing compared to the cereal!

Oatmeal then veggies (sweet potatoes, peas, squash) then some fruits (apples, bananas) the bananas made him constipated. He has a serving around lunch time
Started with baby oatmeal a week ago and just introduced sweet potato yesterday. She seems to be ok with the spoon, more so with every feeding. But doesn't love the taste of oatmeal. She seemed to like the sweet potato better. I think we'll try squash next and then avocado. She turns 6 mths on Friday and can try fruit next week too.
We started with rice cereal (LO poops 3+ times a day) then carrots, squash, apples, sweet potatoes. My chub-a-butt loves it all, he also grabbed an avocado off my plate so at 6 months I'll offer both purees and soft solids. He is an eater, kicks his legs in excitement anytime we are near his highchair.
We'll start with avocado (BLW) this week after her 6mo appt. She has started showing a major interest in our food (trying to grab food after I put it in my mouth, opened her mouth wide when I have her a teething tablet yesterday, etc), so we'll see what she does when she actually has the opportunity to eat something.
ETA: we'll probably follow with sweet potato. I want to hold off on sweet fruits for a few weeks.

@dukeblue27 - there's baby oatmeal. It's next to the rice cereal. You mix it with formula or breastmilk.
Our Ped said the new recommendation is to start with chicken at 6 mo for EBF babies so we plan to start with chicken. I will be reading about the grains and celiac correlation though. I really think LO is ready now.
I haven't done any baby food or puree stuff. She's not ready yet as far as BLW since she hasn't grabbed onto any food and
doesn't try to grab it even if I put it on the tray in front of her. However, she opens her mouth wide and gets excited when I show her banana. I've given her banana (thumbs up), strawberry (thumbs down), blackberry mixed with banana (thumbs up), a flat Italian green bean (mostly thumbs up - I held it while she sucked on the end of it), tomato (so-so; also held it while she sucked on it).
Mainly, I'm giving her things that I'm already eating, not giving her things that are made just for her to eat alone. If I ate oatmeal regularly, I may have tried to give her some.
We did peas yesterday for the first time. At first he spit it out and then ate it all up. He is ebf and they fed him a bottle of formula at daycare and this is what he looked like when I got him home after throwing up everywhere .. Not sure if it is the peas or formula?
Oatmeal. Tried banana on Saturday and she HATED it so we're going with sweet potatoes instead. She tolerated it but didn't chow down like she does for her oatmeal.

@aml8979 oh no! I hope he feels better. Did they ask you before giving the formula?
He went through all of his bottles and was still hungry so they opened his emergency can of formula. I am going to toss the powder stuff and try the liquid formula instead.
We are doing BLW. We've let her try banana, avocado, and broccoli since she's sitting pretty well, interested, and grabbing for our food. She like the banana and broccoli pretty well, not the avocado.

This is what we are going to do, but more than likely we are waiting until 6 months.
LO then (2 days) and now (1 year)
