At what age ?

At what age do babies care about who is holding them ?

Re: At what age ?

  • I'm curiouse also . I mean anyone can hold my LO and she never cries with them ever. Now don't get me wrong I defienety know how lucky I am that this is happening but sometimes it makes me feel sad. As if she doesn't know who is holding her even me ? I know that's crazy but it crosses my mind sometimes .

  • My daughter never did and I love it that way. Why try and raise a picky kid?

It's not raising a picky kid it's just a simple question wondering when they will reach for you . I don't think there is anything wrong with asking a question. Plus, it's kinda outta your control whether or not they cry if someone else holds them - doesn't have to do with "raising" them.
  • You know its funny you ask that. I finally opened the book my doc gave me. Babies first year. And I went to 4-6month chapter and it said something about at 4-6 month they start not just crying for food, being tired and wanting to be changed but they now start noticing when parents leave the room or not wanting a stranger to pick them up. Etc.
  • Mine is definitely picky already. If he's in a good mood, changed and fed, anyone can hold him. But if he's off he only wants me or dh or my mom. He also prefers to be held facing out, so he doesn't have to look at the stranger holding him. I think its a bit early though to be showing favoritism, and I'm sure part of it is that he knows I'm the one with the boobs he so dearly loves.

  • My DD cries every time I leave the room so it makes it hard to get any me time outside of home! So like PP said pls enjoy it! Lol
  • My older son started to get upset when strangers held him around seven months. He never minded being held by family members or friends that he saw on a somewhat regular basis though.

  • DS1 never really did... at around 6 months he started to fuss a little if someone he didn't see often would take him from DH or I, but he would only do it for a second and the he would be fine. He is a super social toddler, in new environments he takes a few minutes to warm up, but after that he's great!

    Anniversary
  • LO already started. I don't know why. I hand her off ALL THE TIME. She was in my moms arms and looked at me with a huge frown and tears welling in her eyes. I should have taken a photo. It broke my heart but I don't know why she was so upset. I give her to people to hold whenever they are over or we are over.... I fear the future.

    Btw: she is 2 months.
  • Is it wrong that the only people I want her to be that way with is MIL and FIL? Otherwise I don't care who has her! I'm terrible I know, but I'm hoping she will figure them out on her own ;-)

First off, you didn't ask when they would reach for you. You asked when they would care who is holding them. Second, you most certainly can raise a child to be picky and afraid of strangers.
  • Oh I definitely don't want her only wanting me to hold her... Just want her mama once in awhile .. I think it's important to have time away too . My sisters twins are great with everyone but def know who their mom is and I think that's perfect ... She seems like she will be pretty easy going ... Hopefully stays that way . As she gets older I hope she does have a little fear of strangers and just doesn't go with anyone ... Too many weirdos in this world .
  • By strangers I meant other people than parents...not like stranger danger.
  • Mine is 8 weeks old and has never liked being held by anyone but me, not even DH. It gets so exhausting, but he screams his head off with everyone else. As soon as I hold him he is fine. I am interested in learning how you can raise a picky kid. I certainly dont want to have him behave like this but what do I do?

Does he still cry when he can still see or hear you ? Have you tried talking to him while someone else is holding him so he knows everything is ok ? I really have no idea because I'm a new mom who doesn't know what the hell I'm doing myself ha
  • Yeh he will cry even If he sees me or I talk tO him Or he can see me. As sOOn as I take him he shuts up.. Then again I do have massive boobs which I am sure are very comforting. I'd cuddle me too if I could! Lol
