Double-booked birthdays - WWPD?

Ugh, it's birthday season and for some reason every kid who is turning 3 in Bradley's class is inviting the whole class...we have a bday party for a kid who I know but a family I've never met on Saturday at a gym-type place across town in the evening. We got the invitation like a month ago and have been RSVP'd for at least 2 weeks.

This morning I got a text from a mom of Bradley's best friend that he is having his birthday at their house the same day and same time. This kid's mom is so sweet, but we have only just started being friends.

So, question is...am I screwed? Since I RSVP'd do I need to go to kid 1's birthday over Bradley's bff's? Could I get away with just getting kid 1 a gift and a nice apology text? WWPD

  • Can he pick which one he wants to go to? I'd be upset not going to my bff's party but I'm not sure how an almost 3 (yes?) year old would feel.

  • If you don't know the other family I would get a gift and apologize. Can you go late to one and leave the other one early?

I was hoping that this could be our option but one is on the other side of town. I think I'm gonna do the gift and apologize. I don't even know what this kids parents look like!

If they are like the "all kids in class" parties at my kid's preschool, they probably won't even notice. Just text or email and say something came up, and where can you send the gift you already bought (even if you didn't).
Genius. My go-to gift is a national geographic for littles subscription so that's even better!
