Working up to arrival

I'm a first time Mom so this might be a dumb question. But I have a day event for work that would involve about an hour and a half drive each way about 5 days before my due date.

Am I crazy for considering this?

Re: Working up to arrival

  • Eh, no probably not. I work an hour away from home and the hospital I am delivering at is about 35 minutes from my house. So it could take two hours for me to get to the hospital from start to finish if I am at work. I figure if I am in early stages of labor I won't go to work, otherwise I plan on working as long as possible. With DS I worked until a week before his EDD and decided to throw in the towel and then ended up being 10 days late. I wish I would've continued working! You just have to listen to your body, 5 days before your due date could be way before LO even shows up.

  • Not at all, assuming you feel fine and there are no signs of labor. I live in Chicago, so an hour commute each way is normal.

  • I'd do it too. My job is 50 minutes from my hospital anyway. An hour and a half away doesn't seem crazy at all.

  • I agree with pp's. I think 2 hrs would be my limit.
  • My sub can't even start until the day after my due date. Definitely working up until I'm told I can't, or she pops out.

This is exactly me! My sub had surgery and can't work until the day of my due date. Way to add extra pressure to our pregnancies.
  • I'd do it too as long as I was feeling good, and had someone to take me home/to the hospital if necessary.
