I traveled with my son almost a month ago! I carried him in my boba carrier so it was easy to take him out to go through security. I had him suck on his pacifier for take off and landing which helped with his ears. I nursed him once during each flight as well. Some airports make you show the baby's birth certificate but ours didn't (I brought it just in case though). We brought his stroller and car seat as well and checked them at the gate which was really nice! Traveling with him was much easier than I expected it to be!
Everyone else has great tips, but I just want to add that you should take at least one change of clothes for LO in your carry-on. For whatever reason, blowout diapers are extremely common when flying with babies! You may even consider having an extra set for yourself.
I've flown 3 times with LO in the last month and each time was cross country - I was terrified, but you can do it! I echo all the tips above, but I'd also bring those little scented bags in case your LO has a blowout; the flight attendants were SO appreciative I had those, so I put the soiled diaper in them before throwing them out so the bathroom doesn't totally stink! Also maybe a small pillow or one of those C-shaped neck pillows may be helpful so while your LO is laying against your lap/in your arms, you can have some cushion for your arm. Good luck!
On plane, LO should wear roomy & comfy clothing On plane LO should wear a overnight diaper
Baby wear if you can.
Diaper Bag should hold: 2 changes of clothes (and ziploc bags for soiled diapers/clothing) Bibs/burp cloth 6 extra diapers antibacterial wipes Favorite toy Favorite warm blanket
Check formula Feeding regulations. If you can bring ready made formula, do so. Much easier than powder & reheat
All the PP pretty much said what I was going to say. I flew with DD when she was 7 months and again when she was 11 months. My Ergo came in very handy on the plane. I pretty much wore her through the airport and on the flight. At the security checkpoint, they did not make me take her off, I just had to go through security differently. I brought more pre-made formula than I thought I needed because you just never know what can happen. They were all 3 oz, so I had them in little plastic baggies in the carry on. If that is not available, and you have to use powdered formula, already have the water in the bottle and the powder in little plastic bags. They had to test the water in the bottle, but then they give it back so it is not an issue.
Oh strollers, carseats, etc. are free to check in, which is nice. GL!
Thanks so much for the suggestions ladies! I'm a bit nervous about our first flight and want to be as prepared as possible! I really appreciate the suggestions.
I EBF and LO doesn't take a bottle - so I don't think I will bring milk in a bottle, although maybe I should JIC?

Honestly, it is better to be over prepared than not prepared enough. It is highly possible your LO could sleep the entire flight as well.
Also remember when traveling with an infant the diaper bag does not count as your carry on. So you can have a true carry on, a diaper bag and you can gate check what ever you need to
Normal diaper bag stuff, extra clothes, diapers, etc. for me, I changed her diaper immediately before boarding the plane (of course she pooped on all 3 flights and "blow-out" is practically her middle name so I had to rush to change her on the changing table on the plane, not fun but we made it on time!!). We EBF so I had my cover and just fed her anytime she got fussy (no way she'd accept cold breast milk so no point in bringing it along) -I'm sure everybody was more comfortable with her nursing that crying. honestly for the most part she slept.
I would def recommend bringing extra diapers and wipes because you really don't want to run out of those.
Also, if you're traveling with your stroller/car seat you can bring it with you past security and they can check it at the gate (so you're not having to carry LO and your bags everywhere) if there are unsold seats on the plane, they'll allow you to bring on and strap in your car seat without paying for an extra seat (I held mine almost the entire flight, but if things we're to get turbulent they're safer in the seat than your arms)
If your flight isn't oversold, you probably won't have any neighbors - no one wants to sit next to the "lady with the baby"
