Re: Milk in a sippy Cup

  • Have you tried warming it up a bit? That did the trick for my LO. I've slowly decreased the temp that I give to him and he'll do it lukewarm now. Someday we'll get to just drinking it cold… I guess?

  • I will have to try that thank you.

  • I'd keep offering it in a straw or zippy cup from time to time but I wouldn't worry other than that. She doesn't NEED milk.

Uh, according to my son's pediatrician, an 18 month old absolutely does need milk.

  • we weaned our kiddos off the bottle pretty late too. we tried off and on before but I felt that they just weren't drinking as much milk as the pedi said they should, so I kept offering bottles. one day, I said "f it" and literally threw away the bottles, and just went with the sippy cups. lo and behold after a few days, they drank just as well (well, almost as well) from sippy cups as they did with bottles.  I guess my suggestions would be just to go whole hog for a few days, maybe a week, and see how they do. like pps said, if they want milk, they'll drink it from a sippy cup.

This. This is what we did when ds turned one and it took a few days for him to drink out of the cup but like others have said if they want it they'll drink it
  • we had to just quit cold turkey. She cried for a few days, absolutely refused the sippy, but then after a 3 day strike or so took it. I found it more difficult the more we gave her the bottle and then tried to offer the sippy.

My pedi advised us to try that and told us she wouldn't die if she wasn't drinking milk because she was eating solids, other sources of calcium, and staying hydrated with water. I just kept telling myself that. It was odd though..she always drank water fine from the sippy..but once she figured out milk was in there..went into meltdown mode

  • Seriously, just take the bottles away.  Let her scream, cry, fuss.  She'll cave eventually.  Stop letting a toddler call the shots.
  • I can hardly get LO to use a dippy at all. He'll throw them so hard and break them :/ it's super frustrating

  • Cut the bottles cold turkey. That's what we did.
  • Step away from the sippy cups!!! They aren't really a "step down". They were simply made to prevent spills. Open cup or open cup with a straw are the ways to go! Good luck!
