Anyone else having issues with their heart?

Not asking for advice or answers from Dr. Bump!! I am just wondering if anyone else is dealing with this also.

I have a history of SVT, (supra ventricular tachycardia) the dr and I have been keeping an eye on it. I had a couple short runs of it two months ago, bearing down stopped it every time luckily. I couldn't take a beta blocker to control my heart rate since I needed to take nifedipine for contractions and preterm labor. They contraindicate each other.
I had a trip into l&d on Friday for contractions (which stopped when I got there of course) however my heart rate was 137 and sats were 95-98%. It wouldn't go down below 110, the nurse asked me if I felt like it was turning into svt and I told them no. I was just nauseated, hot and short of breath. The nurse was concerned and informed the dr of my vitals. Did not see the dr until four hours later when I told the nurse I need to leave to put my kids to bed. Finally que the dr. He said baby looked great, and that he wasn't concerned with my heart rate really because it would only affect me and not the baby... Ummm ok. Got d/c'd and immediately contacted my dr.
Since my hr is getting worse all weekend with near syncope we have to stop the nifedipine and start me on the beta blocker. I am waiting for the script to be filled.
I can barely walk across my house with getting so short of breath and my heart pounding. Ugh I want this to stop. I have to be on complete rest to keep from going into full blown svt.

Anyone else dealing with tachycardia?

Re: Anyone else having issues with their heart?

  • Me! I have SVT, mitral valve prolapse and tricuspid regurgitation. It sucks. Sometimes my HR gets into the 130s. Makes me feel like I'm running a marathon. I'm not on meds for it as its been relatively sporadic during pregnancy. I hope you feel better and the meds help. Are you staying hydrated? My cardiologist said that can impact it too.

Yikes!  Doesn't sound fun.  I can't relate but I hope you feel better soon.  Even though I'm no professional, I second the suggestion on staying hydrated.  A few years back I went to the Dr a couple times because I would get out of breath and my heart would race for no apparent reason........... apparently I was dehydrated.  I'm sure your issue isn't quite the "quick fix" like mine, but i'm sure extra water couldn't hurt!
  • I've been staying extremely hydrated. Between chugging ice water and always eating ice chips my pee is clear lol. It's just so frustrating. I couldn't even get dressed without getting so winded! I'm worried also how it will affect my heart. I have a feeling the dr is going to request an EKG this week.

Have you had a holter or echo lately??

  • Not lately. I had to wear a monitor for a while with my oldest daughter. I hope I won't have to do that again. The pads and my skin did not get a long. We were planning on an echo and a stress test after I delivered.
Being pregnant with two full term pregnancies and only a month off is not agreeing with my heart.

  • I'm definitely not to your level of tachycardia. The morning of my last OB appointment I had an eye exam too. They took my BP which was low, but my pulse was 110 (which seemed high for me) I asked Dr. Google who said tachycardia but when I mentioned it to my nurse at the OB appointment she didn't seem fazed by it at all, especially since my BP had gone up since that morning. Hopefully they can get you feeling better! Thoughts & prayers headed your way!

  • No history of it myself. But have you been seen by a cardiologist recently?

  • Thank you for all your input. The beta blocker is helping a lot! I have an appointment with my cardiologist after the pregnancy. He can't see me until the end of March.

  • Mine got better after starting to take iron supplements, have you been checked for anemia? And staying really hydrated helps prevent issues for me too
  • I have a baseline of 10 with my anemia. I can't take iron supplements, I try to eat a lot of dark green leafy veggies for it. I am constantly drinking water and enjoying my ice craving! The lopressor is a miracle. I feel soooo much better!
