Natural Birth

attempting natural birth for 2nd baby...tips, experiences,etc

Anyone have the experience of going natural after having not the first time? I am also thinking of switching from an OBGYN to a Midwife for this 2nd baby. I am considering this change for a few reasons. I would love to hear experiences and recommendations of what to look for in a midwife. Thanks!

  • No advice. I'm doing the same thing. Epidural last time and had fully planned on doing it that way. Then I decided my experience and recovery could have been better without meds so here I am, starting all over in a way.

  • I had an epidural with my first an had to be induced. My second came at 37 weeks. I labored at home for about 5 hours and when we got to the hospital I was a 7-8. Two hours and 3 pushes later my little one was born into the world.
It helped me a lot to labor at home because there's no pain relief available at home and it was more relaxing there than at the hospital. I should've gone to the hospital sooner since I was gbs positive but my contractions were still ten minutes apart when we left and I thought I had much longer to go. I do wish I had taken some sort of birthing class however to help give me ideas for coping with the pain...

  • I'm in the same boat and could have written exactly what stephbrim24 did.  I had a great birth experience with my first, but there were a few things that happened after that I think might have gone better had I not had meds.

Things I'm doing differently this time: taking Bradley classes, hopefully persuading my husband to hire a doula, and possibly switching doctors.  I really liked my doctors last time and think they did a good job.  However, there is another guy in town who most of my NB friends like more than the hospital midwives around here.  I've met him and liked him, so might be switching.
