IUD q's

Morning everyone. I've seen a few mirena / IUD posts lately so I guess they're sort of common... Do you check yours yourself? I've had mine for about a year now and I don't really check. Is it supposed to be painful if it becomes dislodged? Or only if it becomes embedded where it is not supposed to?

I love the thing for the most part. I should remember to get to the doctor...

    I can't check mine. My doctor told me from the start that he cut the strings very short and I would most likely not be able to feel them.

    I'm on my second mirena. I used to check the strings, but was unable to feel them one month and freaked because my twins were only a few months old. I went to dr and the strings were just up in a funny spot. I quit checking then. I've never been able to feel the strings on my 2 nd mirena. I do still go in for my yearly pap.

    I'm being a little crazy about it but I need to get in somewhere for my annual anyways. I need to find a new dr because I refuse to go back to my old OB.

    I check my Mirena strings and my boobies in the shower on the first of every month. So far, my IUD hasn't moved and I haven't found any lumps.

    I don't check but apparently it's up in my cervix and the doctor couldn't get it out. It's still where it's "supposed" to be but it's still been causing me a lot of issues for three months.

    @shakeyjakey - if you don't mind me asking - did you go to the dr because of the issues or were you there anyways for something else and he/she told you it was out of place?

    @olp920 I went because when I got my period back after LO I was having pain between cycles. After the third month I couldn't take it anymore and went in (I was also overdue for my annual). She said she wasn't sure if she could see them (because it was mucousy) and I had an ultrasound where it was discovered it was still in my cervix. There just isn't enough string for them to grab to take it out.
