Given epidural and had labor stop...?

I am 36 weeks and 5 days. Yesterday I went in for my NST with a lot of cramping. They had double booked the appointment and ended up sending me to labor and delivery for monitoring. They determined I was in labor and dilated up to 5cm with contractions every 2-5 minutes so they admitted me and hooked up the epidural and catheter... Everything so I was ready to go. They came in later and said that I wasn't progressing more and was being sent home. Has this ever happened to anyone before? I thought it was super weird and do not really know what to think of it.

  • It happens. The epidural may have contributed or it was going to happen anyway, you don't know.

  • Maybe that is what happened then. It was so weird though cause all the nurses and doctors were sure it was going to happen and then the contractions started spacing out more.

I had a friend that was having contractions and went hospital. She was at 5cm when she got there. After hours and hours of laboring while walking around and no epidural at all she was failing to progress. They sent her home and her contractions stopped. Like I said, it can happen even without an epi.
  • Oh man I'm sure that was super disappointing!

  • Super disappointing, but I've heard and read that this can be a consequence of an epidural.

Agree. I am not convinced that the epidural had anything to do with it. You have lots of time.
