weird question for you ladies

Hi Ladies! I have a kind of weird question for you. Did you think you were going to have twins before you actually found out you were having twins? My husband and I have been TTC for about a year and I just kept thinking we were going to have twins most of the time we have been TTC. We just found out we are pregnant and I have this overwhelming feeling that it's twins. Did any of you feel like this before you actually found out?

Re: weird question for you ladies

  • Nope. Not even a little bit.

  • Before conceiving our first set of twins, we totally thought we were gonna have twins b/c my mom's a twin, so we always knew it was definitely a possibility. But with DD I really thought I was having twins again, but nope! A feeling means nothing honestly. Sorry!

  • I had IVF and we transferred 2 embryos. I still did not believe that both stuck and didn't even allow myself to think we could have twins. I felt physically and mentally that it was a singleton. It seems so stupid now. I was completely shocked when the u/s tech gave use the news.

So no, I didn't think I was having twins ahead of time. :)

  • Yep, from day one after the two embryos transfer I called them they whenever we talked about them. My husband used to correct me but I would forget and do it without thinking.

When we were told there were two I said "ha! I knew it" and he just shook his head at me :)

DE IVF and transfer 2 embryos... So I knew there was a strong possibility. That being said, I KNEW we were going to have trouble getting pregnant, it was something I was just born knowing. No doctor ever told me I just somehow knew. I have normal cycles, there was no physical indication of my infertility, I just knew. As it turns our my ovaries don't work. The mother's instinct can be very strong ;)

  • A lot of people have a hunch they're having twins and turn out not to. So if you ask on a multiples board the results will be a little skewed in favor of those who had a hunch and did turn out to be right. ;)

The only time it entered my mind was right around 11w when my stomach suddenly seemed to get a lot bigger at once and I thought, "How did that happen that fast? I bet there's two in there!" In retrospect that didn't really make sense but the hunch did turn out to be right. Still though, it was more a fleeting thought and it was still a TOTAL shock to hear, "There's two!" at the u/s.

  • We had a singleton first, and then at the start if this pregnancy, yes. It felt so different, as in either we have the date wrong (which would have meant a previous pregnancy test was wrong) or maybe there's 2 in there. Our DD still insists that she thinks we're having 3. Comparatively, I was soooo much more tired during the first trimester, and my belly was growing not only bigger but also a lot more firm a lot earlier.
  • Not before I was pregnant. My first boy is the only grandchild/boy/baby in the family for 22 years so naturally he was spoiled. He got double everything when it came to toys so I would always joke as I put the two manga doodles away that we now need twins or a donation to the children's hospital was in order. Then I got pregnant and knew there was more than one DH didn't believe me I was so mad until we saw the screen. He got a lot of "told ya so" that night. At least we have a use for the toys now :/

  • No. I was shocked. Even though this really doesn't mean anything, twins don't run in either family and also I peed on a ton of Wondfo sticks starting at 10DPO and they were really light until about 16 DPO. I had heard that your HcG is a lot higher with twins and therefore would yield dark pee sticks early on. Not for me! I hope you have twins though if that is what you want!

    Agree with @macchiatto.

I didn't have any special feeling.  Though I think before the first ultra sound you run through a lot of what ifs.  Sure, one of those what if scenarios included twins.  But by no means did I really think that was a possibility.

  • I don't think I REALLY had a feeling, but I do feel like I joked about it maybe a tiny bit more than I ever had before.  The pregnancy itself was unplanned, so getting twins was so ironic to me.  But I was still completely shocked; I don't think I had any serious inclination beyond "Oh, wouldn't this be ridiculous?!"

Congrats on your pregnancy and no, we did not have any feelings like that whatsoever. Not that it would've meant anything if we did.

The chances of having multiples is 3% so, if your feeling ends up beating the odds and is right, can you let me know what your guess is for the next Powerball lottery? ;)

  • No way. We struggled with infertility for 2.5 years. We had several unsuccessful IUIs and 3 unsuccessful IVF cycles. We finally conceived naturally with out fertility treatments which was a huge surprise to us. Then we found out it was identical twins and I just about fell off he ultrasound table I was so shocked. The shock lasted a long time. Even now with 4 mo old twins I sometimes look at them and wonder how the heck this happened.

  • Never in a million years, but we found out we were having twins at our third ultrasound appt when I was 22 weeks.  Shocked would be an understatement :)
  • Biggest surprise of my life, EVER!!!! It was a good thing I was laying down when I found out or I'd have hit the floor. Best surprise, ever, though... : )

Pretty much this. I had zero feelings of twins and the thought it could be twins never even crossed my mind. Our 12 week ultrasound was a shock!

I knew something was different. I was sick from about 7DPO on and I had no morning sickness with DD. Basically I had all these exaggerated symptoms early on and had none with DD. Had it been my first pregnancy I probably wouldn't have thought anything of it. As it was I thought it just meant that it was a boy this time. The night before my first appt at 7 weeks I told DD I was going to see the doctor about the baby. She then informed me I had two babies in my tummy. I thought she was crazy lol. However, I don't think there are any symptoms or anything that indicate multiples. The only way to know for sure is an u/s. Good luck to you with this pregnancy!

ETA: with DD I thought for sure it would be twins, just had a feeling. But nope, just her in there.

  • My H and I use to joke when we first got married we were going to have twins. My mom and my MIL made comments about us having twins.  I never expected to have issues with infertility, I was very regular and never thought I would have a diagnosis of endometriosis (never had any symptoms). As soon as I knew we were doing IVF and we transferred two embryos I was like shit this might really happen we may end up with twins.

  • I had a feeling that I was going to have twins because my dad is a twin and they run in the family. My family always said that if any of us kids were going to have twins it would be me. Sure enough my husband and I found out at 5wks that we were having twins. Congrats to you and your husband!

  • No it was a total surprise. Then the nurse wanted to to an internal ultrasound to make sure there weren't three babies. I even cried a little bit thinking "what did I do to deserve this?? How can I handle more than ooooonnnnee???" But clearly I am over that and the girls are tiny blessings and their brother loves them so much and so does everyone else. After having twins DH and I are thinking, "yeah, having another single baby will be so easy" knock wood.

  • Only on the day of my first appointment. Many of the girls on my birth month board were making twin announcements and as I walked into that appointment, I had a feeling that I would be the next one. I didn't say anything to my husband and as it turned out, my feeling was correct.

  • Everyone kept joking that I was having twins before we found out. I kind of had a feeling I was having twins for no real reason other than I wanted twins. But I never thought we would actually have twins, let alone on our first pregnancy! After finding out we were having twins we realized how many sets there were on my moms side of the family so it's not too shocking that we ended up with twins! Good luck to you!

  • I was just curious if any other moms had had an overwhelming feeling they were having twins and it happened to be right. I'm not saying I am having twins. I never had this kind of feeling with any of my other pregnancies. Twins aren't a complete stretch since we had a miscarriage and my cycles were a mess for months afterward. My Dr didn't think I was ovulating after the miscarriage so she suggested going to an IF Dr. I have worked in both ob/gyn and infertility so we discussed it further and decided to do a cycle of birth control and then we would do three cycles of clomid before going to IF. The first round of clomid worked and I am almost positive I ovulated on both sides. I will let you all know after my ultrasound if it is twins or not. I would be thrilled with one healthy baby after the heartache we have been through.
  • Totally! I new I was pregnant right away and I knew it was twins. My husband and I always joked that we would have twins first! It was still a shock that we were actually right though! I have tons of twins on both sides of my family so we thought it was genetics. Well two weeks after my boys were born.. Surprise! Identical (had to wait for the placenta panel to come back).. So not so genetic after all
  • Nope, but you never know. Please tell us what you find out, good luck!
