Holy Cramp Batman!!!!

I know some of you have already experienced this...

But last night, at 3 am, it hit, in my right calf muscle

I was folded in half, desperately trying to get my foot to actually obey me and bring my toes up (best way I have found to stretch it), did not co-operate, I put my foot on the floor, nope, would not flatten. Eventually I calmed myself down, and after about 2 hrs (ok was only probably 2 minutes, but felt longer!!!) it relaxed...

DH slept through all of this, the tossing, turning, frantic muffled screams of agony, the stomping, and the eventual slow walk around the house to ease the pain.

Here is a lovely pic I managed to get of the extreme agony!

  • That really sucks! I've been lucky with only minor one's, but my BH have been pretty bad lately. I've upped my water intake and started eating a daily banana, which has helped somewhat.
Oh that's good. Was just chatting with my MW who suggested I may not be getting enough salt. Its really hot here ATM, and I don't add salt to my food, so that's what it may be. Ill try the banana as well! She also suggested Tonic Water (only half a glass, and no Gin obviously!!!)

  • So painful. I try to stand on it as soon as possible, which is extremely painful but it goes away faster than trying to stretch it out in bed. Sometimes it feels like my leg is going to break in half.

  • I've had to jump out of bed and walk them off, just flexing my foot doesn't work anymore. I almost fell over two nights ago because my leg just wasn't doing what I was telling it to do.

    Fuck cramps, they suck.

  • Thankfully they don't happen often but I have had a few literally drive me to tears.
  • Yep!  Had that happen the other day in bed.  DH didn't sleep through it because I accidentally kicked him  trying to stretch my leg.

If you put your index finger under your nose like a mustache, apply pressure and rub it back and forth like the mustache is wiggling, it is a pressure point that relieves muscle cramps.  This was a life saver back in my martial arts days.  Yes, you look ridiculous, but in the middle of the night, who cares!

I have not heard that you can use this for nausea.  Totally going to try that the next time I'm feeling sick!

  • I cramp in silence all the time. My husband gets mad I don't wake him up to help me but normally I can get myself up. The other day it was so bad I literally sounded like I was being stabbed I was screaming and crying I couldn't move my husband came running into the room and said my calf was so bad he could see the muscle... My step was whose 17 got me a gator aid and our 7 year old started sobbing cause he didn't know why I was crying. It took my husband like 5 min to be able to move my leg he felt so bad he started to get upset. I laid there like 10min after just crying.
  • Omg! Other than restless leg syndrome, I've not had this issue....yet. Now I'm scared beyond belief!!
  • Same thing happen to me last week on same calf! It was sore for 4 days after!

  • Ouch! The same thing happened to me last night (my left calf). It was AWFUL, but I stayed quiet for DH's sake. That was at 4:00 a.m., and I've been up ever since.
    * I'm definitely going to try the mustache trick!

  • I've started getting these a lot more frequently (though more foot than leg cramps). Is it silly that I've decided to use them as "labor practice"? I make myself relax my body and accept the pain rather than fighting to make it stop. It does actually help it go away more quickly for me, so that's a plus, and I get to practice taking deep breaths through pain :)

Wait, hang on a sec, Leg cramp can be compared to labor pain??????

  • This has happened to me twice now. I jump out of bed as quickly as I can yelling "ow, ow, ow, ow!" Hubby freaks out thinking I'm in labor and when I tell him it's a leg cramp he rolls over and says "ugh, I'm trying to sleep!" And the cramps are like yours, completely locked. It's horrible!

  • Leg cramps F*ing suck!
And yeah they feel like they last forever!
  • Ive had occasional leg cramps for years. They sometimes are so bad, the entire muscle is rock hard on the SIDE of my leg. A fire next to my bed wouldnt get me up as fast as a leg cramp does! I find almost instant relief by standing on it, though it still aches the next day.

  • Try calcium (tums) before bed and a little Gatorade. These suggestions have completely stopped them for me!!
