Dipping My Toe In...(Intro)

Hi there! I've been lurking on various Bump boards for almost two years now and am finally taking the plunge to participate. My history is in my signature (I hope) - but I'm finally to the point where talking with others going through the same thing I am would be helpful. My husband and I are both pretty private IRL, but I'm hoping to give and get support here.

A little more about us - I'm 31, he's 30 and we've been married for 4 years, but together for 12 years since college. We live in the suburbs of Chicago, just recently bought our house here after selling our condo in the city. We both really like to cook and spoil our dog. I'm a lawyer by day, professional couch potato and TV watcher at night. As you can see, we've just been through our first round of IVF and though I am still two days from beta, I have been POAS obsessively (can't help it) and am now 8dp5dt and BFN, so I am being realistic about this cycle. My husband is out of town this weekend, so I'm stuck giving myself PIO shots knowing it's most likely a BFN, which is probably part of what finally pushed me to participate here. We already have our follow-up with the RE scheduled for 3/3, and I'm worried about our fert rate (just seems low to me) and frustrated with our embryo quantity/quality at day 5, given how many eggs were retrieved - so already anticipating what the RE has to say for the future.

Apologies for the novel, and looking forward to participating.

    Welcome! I love to cook as well. Congrats on your new house :) I am a POAS fanatic too. I am sorry you are getting negatives. I can see why you are concerned about your cycle numbers. What were your e2 numbers like during the cycle and at trigger? Also, what dosage of gonal & menopur were you on?

    Thanks for the welcome!
    @Maggie713 Good luck on Monday!

    @Grateful&thankful My e2 levels rose pretty rapidly and topped out at around 3400 I believe. I was on 150 Gonal and 75 Menopur throughout, and the last two days of stims was on the Menopur only. I was originally supposed to trigger with Ovidrel but they switched me at the last minute to Lupron with the HCG boost b/c of the e2 levels.

    Hi ham!

    Just want to say you are one brave lady to give your self those PIO shots! That's very impressive, I wouldn't dream of doing the inter muscular myself! Any tips incase I ever find myself in that dreaded situation? I'm not sure how you would even aspirate and be able to see the needle. I think u r my hero! :-) good luck with your beta, either way don't loose site of how strong you are!

    Hi there and welcome. I've been there knowing logically that I was going to have a bfn..... However I called my RE and asked if I could either a) come in early because all the HPTs have been neg (addicting little suckers aren't they?)... And b) if I could stop the meds?

    My RE said not to stop the meds and also made me wait until my beta at 11dp5dt to get my may beta results.

    Sadly, I haven't seen anyone with a story of a positive beta after being so far out from transfer. I asked on the PAIF board the question and the nurse at my beta.... Who told me it's will still be negative for my beta.

    It's hard to know that it is over when it seems unrealistic that things could change yet people, including the RE wanted to hold out hope.

    I hope you get some answers at your WTF appt., and I hope you finde success after trying again. :)

    @ham113, Welcome!! I'm so sorry about your cycle. The same thing happened with my fresh Ivf cycle and I still had to continue my meds. I just wanted it to be over and start again. Hopefully you'll find success with your next cycle. I was able to go straight into FET after I got my period. I'm on my phone so I can't see if you have a siggy or if you have and frozen embies.

    Welcome and thanks for sharing your story. You will find a lot of support on this board... I know I have. I totes feel your pain (literally) with the self administered PIO shots. I try to let DH do them when he is around but that's not always the case. Good luck to you! BTW I love Chi-Town! Have lots of close family friends and social friends up there. I worked in Highland Park for a little bit (commuted from Balto MD every week for a year)

    Thanks ladies! I'm so glad I finally decided to start posting, I already feel better after being able to connect with people who have been there / are there.
    Deardra77 I really have no idea how I can do the PIO shots myself either. I hate needles and getting blood drawn, though IF has pretty much forced me to get used to it. My husband drew a circle so I could see where I was going, but aspirating is definitely tricky. I tried it once earlier in the week just to be sure I could do it and nearly passed out. It was totally all in my head, and it's actually not that bad, which always makes me wonder if I'm doing it wrong because I feel like it should hurt more!

    Welcome! So sorry for this cycle, although of course there are women who got a BFN on HPTs and a positive beta on the blood test. There are success stories for just about every scenario out there, although you're still wise to be realistic. Hope your stay here is short and sweet!
