Delta and breastfeeding LIP

Not sure why she felt the need to ask in the first place, but someone handling Delta's social media told a BF mom to pump beforehand because she couldn't BF on the plane. Delta has since apologized for misinformation.

I have to say, I'm still mad over it. Not mad at Delta really, but it's sad to me that the mom felt like she needed to ask permission to feed her kid, and it's sad that this employee just assumed that this was the policy. Our society still has so far to go.

  • I pump all the time on planes. I do it in my seat too. I put on my hooter hider and just do it. I never have been questioned but then again I doubt anybody knows I'm doing it as I sit next to my family.

  • We flew Delta all the way to Mexico and back in December and I BF the whole time. The flight attendants never batted an eye, and talked to me and served me drinks like it was NBD. So this guy really did just fabricate a policy. Outrageous.

  • From what I read, she wanted to be prepared with a printed off policy in case anyone gave her shiit. How sad though, that a nursing mom is that concerned with discrimination/humiliation and is so unsure of her rights that she felt the need to cover her bases like that.

  • I've fed N on the plane and the attendants were really nice about it. Typically I nurse right before though, since planes are so cramped it's uncomfortable. Never had anyone say anything to me at the gate either.

  • I think this happens all the time and not just on flights. When I got asked to nurse in the bathroom at the YMCA it was by a janitor and I think he just presumed that was the policy. I knew better but I don't think people are well trained to deal with it, and if they haven't done it themselves they don't know what a big deal it can be. It's sad, but I'm not surprised.
