screaming baby vent

My LO screamed for almost three hours straight this morning. I tried everything to calm him down and soothe him. I ended up putting headphones in my ears blasting music and singing to him while skin to skin and he finally fell asleep. I know everyone says sometimes babys just cry but I feel awful I couldnt calm him down sooner...he already had a rough night of being fussy and not sleeping very long periods of time then poo just hit the fan this morning :(

Re: screaming baby vent

  • Sorry :( unfortunatly all babies do it at least once. Sucks as a parent

  • Try going for a drive. I know everyone says that but for DS it really does work sometimes. I'm sorry you had a rough morning :(

  • Did you try to feed him at all during that time? I only ask because you didn't mention it.
  • Thanks guys!
@peanutmuse yes I did feed him, he started really getting upset about half hour after his feeding. I tried a few times after that feeding during his screaming to feed him but he wouldn't until about 2 hours in he took half of a normal feeding, but stopped & continued crying.

Maybe he was gassy? Don't feel guilty about having difficulty soothing him. You are learning too about being a mom and about him and what works for him. You aren't supposed to have all the answers right off the bat.

  • I'm sorry mama ((hugs)) it is so hard to see then cry and not be able to fix it. I hope that he's over whatever was bothering him.

  • I feel your pain. Kavi has those moments and idk what to do. The amazing Part is when it passes it's like it never happened.

  • Sounds silly, but try turning on the vacuum when he won't stop crying. Our lo is colicky and it calms him instantly.

  • Hes FF and on similac total comfort hes also on Zantac for acid reflux . But ill definitely keep that in mind thank you! Im glad its helping your LO :)
  • @kosbo06 ill be pulling my vacuum out tonight and have it ready in case of emergency. Do you mind me asking how your routine is with your LO being colicky? My dr wanted to rule out his reflux issues and stuff before discussed him being colic at our last appointment
  • I highly recommend the five s sequence from happiest baby on the block, combines all of the suggestions about white noise etc and it's really worked for us. It's a helpless feeling when you can't calm them down and I feel like after reading this(esp as a Ftm) I have some techniques that work.
  • @jeslillyn
I consider myself lucky as he is only mildly colic. I'm totally open to talk, what exactly would you like to know about our routine?

  • I had this happen last Wednesday, but for only 2 hours. FWIW, going for a drive didn't help us, although she typically falls asleep as soon as she gets in her car seat. I didn't fry the vacuum though... Adding that to my desperation list.

This is what I was going to suggest too. We did it pretty regularly with DD1, so our floors were pretty clean!

  • @kosbo06 just how your day goes...is there a specific time of day or night your little one is colicky or just random? Him being mildly colicky how often or long does he seem to have trouble ?
  • @jeslillyn his worse times of the day are from about 8-10 am and 4-7pm. During those times is when he needs to be consoled constantly and screams even after he has been changed, fed, rocked, etc. He doesn't scream the whole 2/3 hours, but is on and off throughout those times.
