Babies on the Brain

Anyone ttc 1st in May 2014?

Hi everyone,

Was just wondering if anyone is going to start trying for their first in May 2014??

I've just come off pill this month. Also got a doctor's appointment for a check up at the end of Feb.

It's amazing how conscious about your body you become when you start making plans. I'm eating as healthily as I can too (and feeling much better for it). Sticking to my five a day!

What are your plans?

Re: Anyone ttc 1st in May 2014?

  • I'm not trying until at least September, but I plan to continue my same eating, taking prenatals, temping and checking CM, and using the Fertility Friend app. Best of luck to you!

  • We started ttc this month. I'm on CD 26/11DPO and all negative tests so far. I should start my period Saturday. I'm not really bummed about it, we did everything we could but the odds are against conceiving in any given month. I went into it thinking narcissistically that if anyone would get pg the first month it would be us since we are young, healthy, and doing everything "right" in ttc... but, at this point I am 99% sure I'm not pregnant. It would be a really good wake up call (who was I to think it would be so easy?) and make the statistics make much more sense. I am only saying this because I think it is probably really common to start off thinking it will be very quick even when planning when to start ttc.

Assuming I'm not pregnant, we will be holding off trying again until May. We have a big trip to Russia planned and I'm not personally comfortable traveling that far during the first trimester. It's also a bit of a consolation prize for not getting pg this month - now I get to look forward to sampling Russian vodka with DH on a gondola in the Saint Petersburg canals. We will start indefinitely ttc in May though. When the time comes we should start a thread or message each other just to give support! It's such an exciting time, but also somewhat lonely. Thankful I have such an awesome husband but ttc feels like the most important thing we have ever done and we aren't comfortable telling everyone IRL.

Can I ask why you have decided on May?
  • We will be starting in May as well, and I can't wait! It took a long time for DH to become ready, but once we sat down and made a plan it really helped him. Now as the time approaches, he's been getting more and more involved and I just love it. I'm starting a new job in a couple weeks and we're both in our friends' wedding party in June, so I know these next few months will fly by.

Anyone else get irrational excited about the thought that by this time next year we could be ready to pop? So many things would have to go right for that to happen but hey, it's possible. 8->
  • @TikiTurtle - yes, it is so exciting! I was really hoping I would get pg this month only because I would love to have a little one with us by the next Holiday Season. This Christmas we realized just how badly we want to expand our family. Also, my dad passed away last March and his birthday is in October, so it would have been special. Still possible Im pg, not likely though.

Anyways - It is crazy to think that the odds are very good that sometime by the end of 2015 we will have a new member of our family. I catch myself wondering who our children will be, what we will name him or her, how our families will react, and what the whole experience of pregnancy and parenting will be like for us. DH has been so supportive and wants it as bad if not more than I do. I can't wait for him to be a daddy. I now get so misty eyed watching pregnancy announcements or births or anything parenting related on YouTube or movies and imagine us in that situation. I feel like a creep, but it is what it is. So exciting!
  • Hi!  We're also going to start trying this May.  I'll be graduating with my masters in May, and by that point I should have a better idea of whether I received any residencies to plan around.  Assuming I won't, and that we'll go forward with TTC.

No real plans...I've been taking PNV for the past month, I've been temping for a long time.  I'll probably make an OBGYN appointment soon, just for a regular check-up since it's been over a year. Once the weather is nicer we'll start running again.  It'll be good to be a bit more active.

    Good luck to you all!
  • Lurker here but I thought it was time to chime in.  We're thinking about April.  Will decide for sure when we get closer to that date.

Also looking forward to the weather getting nice to allow for some outdoor exercise.  Come on daylight savings time!

  • Well thanks to you all for replies, very interesting to hear from you all.

Good luck to you too @Jags8

@TheCraftyKoala Fantastic that you're going to Russia, Sochi winter olympics maybe? I think it's sensible you waiting unless you are already pg. The reason I'm waiting until May is due to work holidays. I'm a teacher and it would work out the best way if it could happen in May thereabouts. We'll see anyway.. We'll definitely have to start a new thread when the time comes..

@TikiTurtle - I'm mega excited too. Can't believe we're actually making the plans. I'm 30 this year. All my family/friends have babies except me and I'm pleased we're actually thinking the time is nearly here for us too!

@carabassa27 good luck to you too. Keep in touch!

Nice to see you're all into health and fitness. The weather isn't a problem for me where I am (Spain). I just wish I could get back into fitness. I was a runner and still have the body of a runner but I take every opportunity I have to rest, my job/business wears me out!

Good luck to you all! And keep coming in with the info and less abbreviations, I'm new to this!!

Ooooh - you're in Spain?  I lived there for a year.  Which region?  I was in Vinaros, a tiny town right on the border between Valencia and Catalonia. It definitely didn't get nearly as cold as it does where I am now, but the old buildings with zero heat or insulation made winters just as unpleasant.  I found myself wandering the aisles at the food store just to stay warm.  Ah, memories.
  • DH and I went to Spain on our honeymoon and it was awesome!  We are going to start TTC #1 next month and this is my 2nd cycle off the pill.  Good luck to you.

  • @Dahlia84 - Nope, we aren't going to Russia in May for the winter Olympics lol since those will be over on Feb 28th. :)

Just for a trip. We've never been but studied the language a bit in college for International Business. Going to Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Tver, and Novgorod. I can't believe it is just a few months away.. I would love to go to Spain, it's on our list!
  • Not my first but I will be ttc my 3rd in May. I just had a miscarriage in January so I have to wait 3 cycles before TTC.

  • Well, this is as good of a time as any to jump in with my first post I guess!

We are looking at May to stop trying to prevent getting pregnant. We have travel plans in the fall and want to make sure that I can go.

  • @eburgmama - I'm sorry for your loss.  And your children are absolutely adorable!
  • @carabassa27 I'm in the South of Spain. And yes it feels colder here sometimes more than the UK! Keep in touch about your plans as we seem to have the same dates in mind. Exciting times!

@TheCraftyKoala I thought you were going to Russia this month, that's why I mentioned the Olympics. I hope you have a great trip! You said your period was due yesterday, any sign?

@eburgmama I'm sorry for your loss. Keep in touch re. trying to conceive in May. Not long to go!

Well the weeks seem to be flying by. Now I have started my first cycle off the pill to "normalise" things. We're using an alternative barrier method until May and then we'll see how long it takes to get the show on the road. I'm not very optimistic as everyone I know seems to take a few months. We're definitely going to use an ovulation predictor thingy. And try our best!

Hi and welcome. We will start TTC in April/ may as well. H wants to be done with his MBA before we have a kid so hopefully that timing will get up through Dec and his graduation.

And to clarify, what do you mean by ovulation predictor thingy? There are many apps that predict for you but are wrong for most women.

If you really want to know your cycle and when you ovulate I highly suggest taking your basal body temp . For more info on the fertility awareness method check out the newbie blog on trying to get pregnant (ttgp) board, fertility friend website and app abd taking charge of your fertility book.

Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

  • @aggiebug The ovulation predictor thingy I'm talking about is an ovulation test and the brand is clear blue. So you know exactly which days you're ovulating so highest possibilities of getting pg around that day. I will be using that, as it seems to tell you the exact day best for you based on your LH homone levels.

As I said, after all this planning we'll never really know how long we'll take to get pg until you actually start trying!

    :)
  • @Dahlia84 - I am officially 2 days "late" but no BFP yet. Fingers crossed but I know that all cycles are regular until they are not.... so will just have to wait and see. No signs of AF, no signs of pregnancy either really. But temp is up, cervix is high, and cm is watery when it is usually dry/sticky before AF. Here's hoping!

DH thinks I already started my period because I really though it would come Sunday and the test was negative. I thought this could make an awesome V-day surprise... or it would be cause for excitement over nothing so I'm keeping it to myself right now. Just hoping for some resolution soon (BFP or AF). Thanks for asking!!
  • Hi all! Hubs and I are thinking of TTC in June! What prenatal vitamins would you suggest? Sending lots of luck to everyone!
  • @rach983 - I take the vitafusion gummies. They are really yummy and have everything you need. My Dr recommended them.

Some people don't really care what they eat but I am pretty cautious with sodium and sugars. You shouldn't have over 25g of added sugar a day but the average person gets something like 76. The gummy vitamins have 2g per serving so I include that in with other things I eat. Just something to consider, although 2g isn't a whole lot.

Update - definitely not pregnant. Just 3 days late for no reason... I've never been "late" before. Temp dropped and AF arrived yesterday. Oh well, better luck in May I hope!

Hello! I take the generic CVS brand prenatal vitamins. As long as it has 800 mcg of folic acid it should be fine. Like @TheCraftyKoala, a lot of people on this board take the vitafusion gummies. I'll probably switch to those after this bottle is finished.  (ETA - spelling.)

    Sorry to hear!
  • My last pack of BCPs ends March 1! I want to have a few months to figure my cycle out. It has never been regular without BCPs, I've had 40 day cycles followed by 30 day cycles and so on. So May will be the earliest that we plan on actively trying. Our 2 year wedding anniversary is the 12 of May, but we've been together for 8 yrs. so this is a long time coming and we are both excited about expanding our family. Just hoping our 10 yr old fur baby can cope with a new addition!
  • Thanks for the advice ladies!
  • My DH and I are also planning to start trying in May.  I'm 30 and he's 32.   But we have some obstacles stacked up against us.  He has chronic bacterial prostatitis, and I have fibromyalgia and take zoloft for anxiety.  zNeed to wean myself off the antianxiety meds, and hopefully his inflammation won't be so high that it'll impede the sperms motility :(  So we both are trying to exercise, eat organic and lots of fruits and veggies, etc..Anyone scared to start trying too?

  • We are in June! I graduate college after 7 long years in May and then in June we're going on a cruise (def wanna drink during that...) so when we get back we're trying! It's extremely strange to think that this thing I've been thinking about for so long is actually going to happen (hopefully) so soon!
  • DH and I could still be TTC for # 1 in May depending how the next few months go :) We're currently on our third try for my cycle! I was upset when I had the first BFN but now I have gained so much knowledge that I am about as relaxed as I can be considering how anal I am haha :)

Good luck to you, I'll be looking for a BFP in about 14-15 days :)

  • We were originally going to wait until June, but now were thinking we'll go ahead and start TTC in May.
  • I'm planning on coming off the pill in April so we'll be trying whenever my body starts back up!  Maybe May? June?  Fingers crossed it does start back after so many years on BC!

  • This will be all new to me! I am finishing my last pack of the pill this week (eek!). DH and I decided we'd give my cycles a few months to even out, have time to lose a little weight, take PNVs. I am using the Ovia app to track my cycles. We will start to try in May :D
  • We are! May will be our 1 year anniversary and we're hoping to start trying then :)
