MIA IUD update

I had my sono on Tuesday and it was in the right place and ovaries looked good. But the pain is getting worse and the MW told me to go to the ER. ER doc tried to take it out but couldn't get it. Waiting to go back for a cat scan to see if it's still there. I'll have to have a procedure by an OB to have it out. FUCK! I'm sitting in the ER crying. I just want the stupid thing out.

  • If it's like the procedure I had to remove mine, it wasn't bad. Mine was embedded through my uterine wall.

They knocked me out, dilated me a bit, and yanked it out.

I couldn't have sex for two weeks, was REALLY sore (like walking/standing/sitting hurt and I just slept) for 2-3 days, then a week of mild soreness.

I do have scar tissue from it, but if yours is in the right spot you might not.

  • Keep us updated. I hope they can take care of it without the procedure.

  • Thanks guys.

The procedure is considered elective to have it removed since it still is in my cervix. So I have to call and schedule it Monday and the stupid fucking thing has to stay in all weekend. I just hope I can get it schedule ASAP.

@loveactually4 do you have any info on morphine and nursing?

  • I'm sorry :( it seems like if it is causing you pain like that it wouldn't be considered elective. *hugs*

  • @shakeyjakey you're good for Morphine.

Just watch baby for signs of sedation. The half life of morphine is 2 hours so trying to wait 2 hours after you take it to nurse will decrease the chances of baby experiencing any side effects.

I just nursed through taking Dilaudid and Percocet for 2 weeks. I had no problems.

    Here's some more info:

The only painkiller to really avoid while BFing is codeine.

PM/call out if you have any more questions. I hope you feel better soon!

  • Because my mom is awesome (she works in the ER) she got me scheduled for an appt Monday at 8 to have it taken out, in the doctors office. So I just have to make it until Monday! It will be so much easier to deal with now that I know I have an end in sight.

@loveactually4 they only have me morphine in the ER, I didn't know I was only going to get norco for home, and only 5 mg. Might as well just take ibprofen and not be constipated.

@loveactually4, one more question dear. They prescribed me flagyl but I was never told I have an infection even though they did a UA, vaginal swab and blood work. So I guess it's just precautionary? But the info sheet in the script says in big letters not to breast feed. The ER doc gave me her phone number for any questions (she's had IUD problems too) but I don't want to bother her if that info in your book. Thanks lady!

@ShakeyJakey Flagyl is a bit more complicated. It is excreted in BM in high amounts although it's not believed to have any adverse effects on baby but there's not a lot of research on this. Everything I'm looking at in my notes is kind of contradictory and I don't want to guide you in the wrong direction.

I would call your ER doc and ask if you need it and, if so, is there another drug you could take because you're breastfeeding.

The other bummer about Flagyl is that you can't consume ANY alcohol while on it or it will make you really sick.

  • Yeah, the nurse told me that part about the alcohol. But they know I'm breastfeeding so idk why they'd give that to me. I'm going to call and see if I had an infection and if they say yes I'll talk to my pharmacist or pedi because she doesn't seem to know much about BFing (which most docs don't). Or call the MW and ask. I'm not taking it tonight so I can have a glass of wine. Thanks so much!!!
