Photog in delivery room?

Are any of you planning on having one? Hubby and I decided we will, she just won't be shooting any lady parts. I just feel like I might be too loopy and groggy from everything, that I want to remember them handing him/her to me, them weighing baby, things like that.

I've been considering asking a friend to do it for us for the same reasons as OP. I don't think we'd be willing to pay a professional though. Not high on the list of necessary as far as the financial side goes.

  • I am considering this and will speak with a photog to decide once we review prices and everything.  They take such better pics than our hospitals.

  • Yeah I have a friend who does them on occasion, and she just told me to pay what I think it's worth. DH and I will be thinking it over the next few months on what we will pay her. Just don't want to pay her too much yet insult her if we don't pay enough.

  • I allowed my mom to come in for this reason. She did it for our first but when the 2nd was born she was outside the door with my daughter and I regret not planning that better because I don't have those same pictures for my son's birth. I don't know that I could pay a friend or even a stranger for something like that but I didn't mind it being my mom. Hopefully she will be there for this one too.
  • I had a photographer for the birth of my second son.  They are some of my most cherished pictures, we will definitely do it again this time!

  • No.  A friend posted a c-section photo on FB years ago and I will never be able to get that image out of my head.

DH has a very nice Nikon, so he will take all the pictures we want after the baby is born.  Off all the pictures I like to go back and revisit with DS, the ones from the hospital are not among my favorites.

  • We had a photographer with DS and I was a csection. They allowed her in the delivery room and I am so thankful for those photos cause we had problems mid delivery and I could feel them cutting me so I went under conscious sedation so I don't remember much of DS's birth. The pictures are a great and will be cherished forever!!!

  • With dd I had a doula and she took lots of great pictures for us. I'm hoping to do that again

My good friend who is a photographer had this done for her son and as a gift will be doing it for us. Her pictures came out beautifully. She had a day of labor and needed a csection in the end. There were no gory shots only mom, dad, then when the baby was born all three.
  • I'm considering it. I'm hoping to hire a doula that would be comfortable snapping a few shots at least, I absolutely love birth photography and think it would be amazing to capture that moment we see the baby for the first time.

  • Our hospital won't allow it :(
  • My husband got a few very nice ones last time, right after birth (when I was holding DD for the very first time) and the nurse midwives were kind enough to snap a few of my husband holding her for the first time, while I was getting stiched up.
These are very precious photos for me.
However, I don't think I need professional photos - we have a nice camera, it did well last time.  Also, I did a natural water birth and it got intense, I think having a stranger in the room trying to get perfect pictures wouldn't have been good for me last time.
We did pay for professional new born pictures about 1 week after birth and I am SO glad we did.

  • I'm not going to have anyone take pictures during delivery. Aside from my husband, I don't want anyone (even myself) to know what I look like when I push an 8 pound baby out. After delivery we will be taking pictures.
