Opinions Please - Name Corbin

Happy Friday! I was curious if I could get some initial reactions/thoughts to the name Corbin.

I have asked the baby names board but I feel like I can post a name and know the response/opinions before they are even given (a lot of the ladies who frequent that board like the same names).

I also tried doing a bump search and the name has not been discussed much, if at all like other names I have searched.

I am not 100% on the name. I just did a scan through the top 500 names on the SSA site and the name stuck out and continues to stick out. Are there any bad associations with the name? Thanks ladies :) I promise this is the only annoying name post from me!

Re: Opinions Please - Name Corbin

  • It's not really my style, but I wouldn't side-eye it.

  • I like it! Original but still classic, and not too cool for school.
  • I think it's a cool name.  I remember Corbin Bleu from the Disney Channel and DWTS.  He's a cutie! ;))   It's not overly popular, so there probably wouldn't be two other Corbins in the same class or looking at you when you say it at the park.

Overall, it's how it flows with your last name and if you like saying it.  Whenever my friends are stuck between a couple of names, I tell them to practice calling it out (Isn't that what moms do?).  If it sounds good when you yell it up the stairs, it's probably work.

  • My immediate thought is the country singer Easton Corbin, but that's not a bad thing. I think it's cute and unique without being yooneek.

  • I have a friend named Corbin who is a sweetheart! So I personally like it. Definitely test out middle names with it too so you get a better feel for it! :)
  • Love it! I'm a little biased because that's what we're naming our little guy. :) It happens to be my Mom's maiden name which is how we came up with it. We're using Quinn for his middle name.
  • I actually like it and agree it goes well with the other names of your kids (in your siggy).

  • I've got a friend who's sons name is Corbin. It's cute and different without being weird.
  • I like it! No associations. But I'm all for unique names :)

  • I vote yes! :) It's super cute and I think it sounds good for a baby, toddler, teenager and adult. (That's how my brain works). And we also think about initials - and what people could say to make fun of them, etc. etc. Maybe we're just weird :)

  • I wouldn't use it because it's NMS but I definitely don't think of it as an odd name.
  • I like it, it's unusual without being 'youneek'.
  • I agree with many of the PPs, while its 'not my cup of tea', it's a fine name! Not strange, a bit edgy, but not too common or popular, which is nice!
  • It's not a name I would use because it's NMS.  But I have a good friend who has a little 2.5 year old named Corbin, and he's adorable.  So I have good associations with it :)

  • NMS, but definitely not terrible!

  • Personally Corbin is not my style, however I wouldn't call it "overly unique" which is really the only thing that would get a side eye from me. I think it would made a perfectly acceptable adult business name.

  • I like it!  It's not necessarily a name I would pick myself, but I do like the sound of it.  It's also a "real" name and people wont think that you're making stuff up.
  • I love love love Corbin! It was at the very top of my list for a really long time. Then I joined the Team Corbin (Corbin McHenry) site after he passed, I couldn't use it. Name associations get me and I had a "there can only be one" moment. I thought so much about that little guy and don't feel like its the right name for our little one now. However, I'm very odd.

  • I like it! My cousins name is Corbin Russell (middle name for his dad) and it's so cute. He goes by Cory.

  • I'm also toying with the name Corbin! It's my maiden name in Latin so I love love the association - but I'm nervous about the nick names. Do you think people will call him Cory or Corby?
  • Makes me think of Corbin Bernsen, an actor.  He was on General Hospital, Young and the Restless, LA Law, Major League, and I can't remember what else, but I used to think he was a good looking guy back in the 80s!  This is a picture from Major League.  He's the guy in the middle next to crazy Charlie Sheen and Tom Berenger.

ETA:  I like the name! I think it's pretty cool but not obnoxious and made up sounding! :)

Unrelated, but I totally met him at my local Starbucks this fall! I live in a small city in Ohio, so it was sooo surreal to see a guy I recognized from tv at Starbucks!

  • I've always liked it since I met a guy with that name in college. Only thong I have against it is from a memory standpoint (we fooled around a lot).

  • Hi my friend forwarded me this thread im commenting from august 14. My ds name is Corben my husband and I love the name. We do get a confused look when people initially ask his name and a lot of times they get it wrong anything from colby to karen. We found being really articulate and sometimes giving his nicknames cj or corbs is easiest. We do get a lot of compliments on the name and people really like it.

  • Thank you for all of the responses ladies! I don't like sharing names with family members but I still want opinions. For some reason I can handle the criticism of a name I like much easier from strangers :)

This name will be going on the shortlist for sure. Luckily I have time yet to really think about it.

Nms I think of Kurt Corbain when I see it

I can kind of see how you would get that if you think that's how his name is spelled, but they don't have the same sound. Co-bain or different from Core-bin.

Of course I would name my son Cobain, just because DH and I are HUGE Nirvana fans! I was 9 when he died and I remember bawling when MTV news announced his death.

Yeah, this would make me choose the name!

NMS, but that said, it's a good solid choice.  Sounds like a name, masculine, flexible (he can be a judge, athlete, actor), doesn't (for me) have any weird connotations.

  • I like it! I say go for it. I've never met a Corbin so no bad associations with it for me its a nice name though.
  • I think that if it is sticking with you and you continue thinking about it, you should do it! That's how we made final decisions about our names as well.
