Membrane Sweep!

Went in today for my 39 week check up. I was 1 and 1/2 centimeters dilated and 50% effaced and my doctor decided to do a membrane sweep to try and get things going! If nothing happens I am going in for induction on Tuesday morning. Hoping to get things going naturally and no need for induction since I am unable to get the gel and have to go directly to Pitocin!

Anyone else have success with the sweeping? I refuse to get my hopes up and I am just accepting the fact now that she will be coming after Tuesday!!

Is there any particular reason you are being induced? Sorry to be a negative Nancy but sweeps really only work if your body is ready for labor and just needs a nudge.

My doctor typically doesn't want her patients going over 40 weeks for some reason. But for me in particular I have been having some breathing/Asthma problems and that have been complicating things so she has suggested I be induced. It is completely up to me though she does not pressure into anything. I am hoping it comes naturally and does not result with inducing me since ideally it is not want I have wanted.

I had mine sweeped at 40 wks and 3 days with DS... it was done at 2 pm and by 1030 pm I started having contractions and DS was born 2:55pm next day... Not 100% sure if it was solely the sweep cause we also had sex that night

I had my membranes swept at 38 1/2 weeks with my second baby. I was 2cm dilated and 50% I had a induction scheduled for 39 weeks. After membranes were swept is had lots of cramping and lost my mucus plug that night, but I I still went four more days and had to be induced.

Had mine swept on Wednesday. Had bloody show and loose stool and im still sitting here. It will only work if baby is ready. Had a sweep with each child and never put me into labor.

This. I had my membranes scraped twice, once at 39 weeks, then at 40. I went 4 days past my due date. So they really only work if your baby and your body is ready.
