Hotel sleeping arrangements?

When your kids outgrow the pack n play stage how do you let them sleep in a hotel. My kids have twin beds at home but they have rails on the side. Do you just put them in a regular double and hope they don't fall out? Or is there a better easy/safe idea? I've heard some hotels have rails but we may be traveling internationally so I don't think I can rely on that.

(no twin experience) but my kids did fine in hotel beds. We had one situation in which DS2 fell off the bed at night and then we just put a chair next to his bed just in case. It worked great. If it is a pull out couch bed, even better because the arm rests kind of act like a rail a bit. You can also have them sleep horizontally on the bed so there is more "roll room."
We have traveled quite a bit and my kids love it. Have fun on your trip!

Our 3 year old fell off our bed 2 weeks ago and broke her elbow. Now, we're trying to figure this out, too, since we're going away for the weekend in a few weeks. The cast will be off by then, but we don't want a repeat performance.

I guess if the room is big enough, you could throw their mattress on the floor? Then it doesn't matter if they roll off. Or if you can move the beds against the walls and you and your husband each sleep on the open sides of the beds with one of the kids. That's all I've come up with so far.

I don't think I've ever been in a hotel room where the beds could be moved, unless it's a roll away bed, but then I wouldn't fit on it with a kid!

no experience yet, but the first thing that comes to mind is PILLOWS! can you bring or buy body pillows and put them under the sheets so they act as guards on the bed? or just put pillows all around the bed in case they do fall? just off the top of my head.

That's an idea. I agree with the pp about asking the hotel. I don't want to bring a bunch of pillows when we travel. I assume there'd still be space for 2 if we pillowed the edges, right?

I've heard that pool noodles under the sheets also help act as a guard.

Eddie Bauer makes a child sized cot that collapses down like camping chairs. We use those for our older kids. They are light enough that we even pack them in suitcases when we travel by air.

We have travel cots we will probably bring with us when we stay in a hotel as I think they'd play on a real bed together. Dh is more worried they will get into mischief while we sleep, though I think I will wake up when I hear them, he just can sleep through it.. We may ask the hotel for a pnp to help keep them from the tv.

A few friends have recommended inflatable bed "rails" that you blow up and put under the fitted sheet - b/c they blow up you can pack them away. For now what we do we get 2 beds and DD sleeps with either DH or I and the other one of us is in the other bed.
