Anyone dropped?

My belly looks a lot lower just in the past 5 days ... Is it normal to be dropping this early?

Re: Anyone dropped?

  • I've been looking lower, too, but my thinking is just that LO flipped around. For a while he was sort of across my belly, and now I feel like he's head down, based on where I feel movement and what I think might be his butt.

  • My husband mentioned the other day that my belly looks bigger and lower all of the sudden. I didn't notice.

  • My belly has been low the whole pregnancy so I can't tell the difference. Can't imagine it dropping any lower than this.
  • I've been carrying pretty low the entire time too...
  • I've carried low with both pregnancies....so I don't think there will be any more dropping from where she already is.

  • I thought the baby drops at 36 weeks ish. How do you know if the baby dropped?

Clearly I have some googling to do!
  • Elisabeth's been head down stubbornly since 20 weeks. Sometimes she's sunny side up, sometimes she faces the back- but she's always standing on her head on my cervix. Guess that's how she feels cosy.

But I'm usually lying down so gravity-wise she's laying on her side with me :)

  • I've been pretty low, I think.

  • I started to notice it being lower this past weekend, but my husband kind of side-eyed me when I mentioned it. Then later this week he admitted it did look lower. Then today at work a random co-worker mentioned that it's already starting to move down. I feel so vindicated!

Funnily enough, I had an ultrasound last Thursday and it was the first time Colin was NOT breech. He was upside-down, head above my cervix, getting ready to come out ... hopefully not too ready.

Even though my belly is dropping, I can still feel my lungs getting squished. *sigh*

  • You're most likely just carrying the baby lower than usual, not actually "dropped."
My LO likes to hang out down low pretty frequently too.

  • I've been carrying low this time around too. So weird that I can actually breathe.
  • I've been carrying low the whole time. I can tell, and I get comments about it now and then. I am not sure if/when I dropped with DS1, so if I am already carrying low, I am curious to see what effect "dropping" will have. Lol

  • DD will have a few days where she likes to hang out lower with her head on my cervix (not my favorite position for her to be in :( and then she'll come back up for a few days, I think it's still too early for anyone to have really dropped, so to speak.  DS never dropped but this one likes to go back and forth.

  • I am so glad you posted this! A couple of days ago I felt like he had "dropped", it was a totally different feeling. DH mentioned the next day that I looked like I was carrying lower. And then a co-worker, who used to work at a hospital teaching prenatal birthing classes and work with pregnant women mentioned that it looked like baby had dropped. Besides feeling completely validated, I feel completely freaked out.

  • I've been carrying fairly low the whole time.  I did with DD too.

  • No, it's not normal to "drop" this early. That would mean the baby is engaged and preparing for labor, and you really don't want that until you're closer to term.

But it is certainly possible for the baby's increasing weight to pull him/her into a lower position and for your belly to start drooping a bit from the strain. That's the most likely scenario. Gravity happens.

  • With my daughter I probably dropped 34 weeks. This boy is so low my belly will Hang out the bottom of some shirts lol
  • I don't think it's normal to drop until closer to full term. Personally I've been carrying in the middle, it's not high or low. He just chills right in the middle :) sometimes he pushes up into my ribs and other times I feel him closer to my cervix with a kick but that's it. Bc of this I think it'll be pretty obvious when I drop!

This. Big difference between "dropping" and carrying low.

Mine has been low the whole time, but just today I feel like it's really low. My placenta is still low so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I also have only felt kicks near my pelvic bone, nothing mid to high.

Yeah, I take back my "dropping" comment.  He was really low last week, but based on  the lack of breathing room, nausea and rib kicks this morning, he's back up high again.
