Antibiotics for ear infections

Dd has had 2 ear infections since the beginning of January to now. We had her on amoxicillin and two weeks after she finished it she had another infection. Then they put her on zithromycin. 3 weeks after ending that she is starting to show signs of EI again. I've been waiting in hopes that it is teething and have been giving her acetaminophen for pain & fever. She doesn't have a runny nose or cough like usual when she gets am EI but she does have a low grade fever, has been cranky and batting at the side of her face. I just don't want to put her on antibiotics again because I know they'll just bump her up to their strongest one and it can do more harm than good sometimes.

    It honestly sounds like 1 ear infection that is not going away versus 2 or 3 separate infections.  I understand not wanting to put her on more antibiotics since they are so hard on them and do not seem to be helping.  I'd think your pedi would refer you to an ENT soon to see what can be done.  

    DS had four ear infections last January- June with fluid in his ears in between that never went away.  He got tubes in August at 11 mos and has had no infections or fluids.  I know this isn't super helpful but at least know you're not alone!

    Our ENT said 4 in 6 months, 5 in a year or 3 months of fluid in the ears before tubes would be considered. He also said antibiotics don't really fix the problem (fluid in the ears), it just takes it down a notch. He said they don't even use antibiotics for EIs in Europe. It's basically a waiting game for their head and associated anatomy to get big enough for the fluid to drain properly.

    We have our follow up in 2 weeks and we'll see what they want to do then.

    Have you thought of garlic oil instead? You can make it yourself its pretty easy and effective. My family has always been successful with the staples of garlic, coconut oil and tree tea oil to cure various things from ear infection, pink eye, yeast, etc.

    we had a similiar experience..but when we went in for the 2nd infection, our pedi switched us to Cefdnir..sorry I think I'm spellling that right...she described it to us as treating infections that are more bacterial in nature. It has some side effects that weren't pretty (loose poops, lots of blowouts etc since it was getting rid of all bacteria..good and bad) but seemed to clear up the ear infection better than amoxicillin did and got rid of it completely.
