Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Swim diapers

I want to start my 6 month old daughter in swim class soon. She is tiny and only wears a size 1 diaper right now but will probably be in a 2 soon. What swim diapers come that small? What brand do you recommend? I would prefer disposable. She's in pampers now. If they are too big will they leak? Thanks!

Re: Swim diapers

  • We used huggies swim diapers with my oldest.  They aren't really all that absorbent though.  We made the mistake of putting one on her before we left the house to go to the pool and when we got there, her car seat was wet.  I think the smallest size they have is small.

  • So are you telling me that when I get in the pool with her for swim class I'm going to be surrounded by baby pee? Lovely! ;)

Um lol.  Sorry but you thought they were supposed to be absorbent?  They're meant to contain logs the baby may drop but pee flows freely through.  That's true of any swim diaper.  If they were absorbent like a regular diaper A) there would be no difference, therefore no need for a different diaper and B) it would swell up while in the pool.

No swim diapers will contain urine. They're not supposed to -- otherwise they'd just absorb the pool water.

OP, we used iPlay reusable swim diapers.
    We use iPlay reuseable also.

  • I have no experience with swim diapers, so I just assumed that they had some kind of material that keeps the pool water out, but keeps the urine in.

  • We used size small huggies since my daughter was about 6 weeks old.  They went up to her arm pits and were big but they did indeed keep the poop in.

Always bring more than one to the pool...if baby poops get out right away and change it.  If you try to make it through the swim class the poop will find a way out :-)

iPlays hear as well. Much more budget friendly.

  • Has anyone tried the Honest reusable diapers? I saw them on Zulily the other day and they were pretty cheap on there.
