puking kid issue- how to handle

edited February 2014 in Parenting
DD went to bed at normal time but woke up a half hour later puking.  No big thing I knew she was sick and I can handle a puking kid but I am worried because I was sitting in the living room and heard her puking and had to run into her room and sit her up in her bed because she was choking on her own puke.  Like seriously gasping on the chunks and COVERED in her puke.  I am afraid to go to sleep because I am afraid she will start choking while I am sleeping.  At this point I wonder if there is even anything left to puke up but am still worried.  Is there a way to keep her from choking on her puke?  If I had a baby monitor I'd put it in her room but I don't have one anymore.  My bedroom is right next to hers but am still afraid of not hearing her. She won't sleep propped up on pillows she will just move them because she hates being propped up.  She's 5 for anybody that can't see my ticker.  Please ignore the run on sentences and any other errors I am sleep deprived and don't even have the energy to attempt to fix them.

I agree. If you are going to be worried, just camp out in her room. Bring in a bucket and paper towels. I hope she feels better and gets some rest.

  • Another vote for camping out in her room with a bucket and towels...and a hair tie if she has long hair.  There is nothing fun about puking kiddos.  Hope she gets better soon!
  • Puking kids are the worst because it's got to freak the shit out of them.  I know I hate that uneasy feeling about puking so I always feel super awful when they're sick.  I know I'm late to the party so I'm not offering advice but I hope she's feeling better today and you guys didn't have an awful night.

  • I hope you all got some sleep and your daughter feels better today.

My response is a  little late, but I cover the top part of my kids beds in thick towels when they are sick.  That way if they puke in bed I just throw the towels in the wash without stripping the bed.  I also put a towel on the floor next to the bed so if they throw up over the side it stays off the rug.  Unfortunately I have had a lot of experience with pukey kids so I have clean up down to a science.

  • Late but we learned the hard way to put the blowup mattress on the floor in our room next to the bathroom because they can't seem to make it to the bathroom and then you hear them and can help.  And if they don't make it, no bed linens to clean up.  Yuck!
