UGH...stomach bug

I'm just gonna whine for a minute here, and say that pregnant women should not be allowed to have stomach bugs. Holy awful. My husband had to leave work early to come home and take care of DD (and me)...because I was too sick to leave the bathroom. I'm finally on the couch, but so far haven't been able to hold much of anything down. Blah.

  • DD just got over the flu. Thank god I didn't get it. Also, they must've done a bad job deciding which strains to vaccinate for this year because I know a bunch of people who had the flu shot (Dd included) who got the flu anyway.

  • I hope it passes quickly! It is so much worse when you have a little one at home that needs you.

  • throwy-uppy and hershey squirts are the work of norovirus. And no, it is NEVER pleasant. I was lucky enough to have contracted it weeks before I got pregnant (yay!) and only threw up once and had diarrhea for three days. WHEW. no fun. I'm super glad DH didn't catch it, or anything yet, because when he gets sick, it is so much worse coz he is type 1 diabetic, immunocompromised. He gets SICK sick.

  • It is the worst! DD was recently sick with a stomach bug. I escaped that, but caught one from somewhere else and was sick all weekend. I'm finally starting to feel better, but can't quite kick the queasiness feeling yet. I hope you're feeling better soon! Get lots of rest, although I know that's hard with a toddler around.

  • That really sucks. I hope you feel better soon!

DS had a stomach bug for Christmas. It lasted close to a week. Luckily, I was home from work that week. Unluckily, my morning sickness really cranked into high gear and all the runny diapers and vomiting were really starting to push me over the edge. Then about a week later, he had a night where he threw up about five times and then lost his breakfast the next morning. This morning we saw a tiny bit of spit up on his sheet and his poops have been mushier. I have a knot of fear in my stomach and the thought of doing this all again makes me want to cry. He was normal all day, fingers crossed. If I get sick, I think I might have some kind of nervous breakdown.

Feel your pain! Had it after Christmas on top off hyperemesis. Barf bag by my bed for 3 days, no food or drink would stay down for 2, and poor DH had to take care of DS. It should definitely be against the rules of being pregnant to get these illnesses for sure. Feel better lady!

  • Feel better soon! I had it 2 weeks ago and nearly went to the ER for fluids. I was finally able to eat a Popsicle and keep a little water down. Be carefull not to get dehydrated!

I've heard there's so many strains of the flu that the shot won't protect from them all. Knock on wood I don't get it . This cold is bad enough!

  • I got hit last night with the stomach bug. What's the best way to stay hydrated? I literally cannot keep anything down, including water. I'm so thirsty!! I keep trying to sip water but it's not enough. I'm worried I'm going to end up dehydrated.
  • Ugh, I'm sorry! I had it a few weeks ago and it sucked. Luckily neither DS nor DH got it after me. I just ate Pedialyte pops until I could keep something more down.
  • I just recovered from this, too. Thankfully it only lasted about a day, but god was it terrible. Hope you start feeling better soon.
    Pass the sheet cake.

  • I haven't tried the ice chips yet. Thanks for the suggestion! Where do I find pedialyte pops?
  • J got the stomach bug last night... poor guy threw up 10 times from 5pm to 1am. I'm sure I'll end up with it but praying I won't- or that it happens this weekend so I'll have help.

FTR though, the stomach "flu" is not the actual flu. It's a completely different virus than the traditional flu. One that a flu shot doesn't cover.

DS2 had it. Then gave it to DH & I. Then my mom caught it. I was SO sick.

On day 2 I had to call my doc to get some medicine called in to help me stop throwing up. I was so worried I'd dehydrate. I tried Zoffran first & it only held me off for 3 hours. The doc called in Phenergan (sp?) & that made me stop. I also slipped a couple to DH so he could get some relief too.

As others have said, Gatorade on ice with a straw to help take small sips is what kept me hydrated. It seemed like any juice was too heavy for my stomach. I hope you get well soon. Stomach bugs are no joke.

ETA:  @kristen0705 You may need to call your doctor & get some medication to stop you from throwing up. Tell your nurse you have a bug & you're worried about dehydrating. TMI: I was throwing up about every 45 min to an hour. They called it in immediately.

  • Hope you feel better soon.
  • Thanks ladies. The vomiting seems to have stopped, but then again I also just reintroduced food. I've had 1/2 slice of toast in 2 hours that I nibbled on here and there. If this doesn't stay down, I plan on calling the doctor.
  • I've been struck with a lower intestinal stomach bug. For the past 2 days I've been living in fear of pooping myself. I'm scared to eat because anything I put in my stomach, enrages it, making it all gurgly and painful. It's horrendous. :-( the kicker is, I'm hungry for all.the.food.
