Success after IF

Cankles :(

It begins. I've got cankles. Is 28 weeks too soon for such swollen ankles? Could it just be bc I drank a sprite today and never drink sodas? Or bc I ate unhealthy food I don't usually eat?
I don't think I was on my feet more than usual, although I didn't get my walk in today either.
Anyone else have cankles or other embarrassing deformities to make me feel better about myself?

Re: Cankles :(

  • Aw, did you eat anything very salty?  That always made me retain water when I was PG.  Maybe elevate your feet and take it easy if you can.  Hope the swelling goes down soon!

  • When I was pregnant with DS, I spent my entire third tri with my feet in a bucket of ice water. Ok, maybe that's an exaggeration, but I had a ton of foot/ankle swelling and once my flip flops got stuck on my feet!

  • Oh TJ! I feel for you! My ankles started getting puffy at 20 weeks after I did too much walking in NYC for a day trip with a friend. At about 26 weeks, the cankles started. By 32 weeks my swelling was epically bad. I so hope your legs stay reasonably sized! I would invest in some good compression wear and put them on as early as possible in the morning.

  • I had laughable swelling from fairly early on in both of my pregnancies. It was so uncomfortable. DH would methodically rub my feet at the end of every day and literally push the fluid from them (yes, it went to my legs, and eventually ended up right back in my feet, but any temporary relief was welcome!). It was so gross and definitely caught up with me before 28 weeks when I was pregnant with DS1 and the twins. Put your feet up as much as you can. Do you have a foot rest at work? That helped me to keep the swelling from getting too out of control most of the time when I was in the office.

@kbeach82 I showed mh my feet and asked him to rub them, and he said "eww! Get your fat feet off of me!!" He was just joking and did end up rubbing them some (half-heartedly) but it still hurt my feelings.
I'll try to keep them up more today, but of course putting them up hurts my pelvis. I can't win!

  • @TJ1979 YH better start rubbing your feet every day like it's his job if that's what you need! I think MH was secretly disgusted by my swollen lower extremities, but I definitely would have punched him in the neck if he had ever even suggested that! Ah, the joys of pregnancy. I don't miss those days most of the time, but I am always jealous when I see a pregnant woman because I think growing a LO inside of you is the most special thing in the world :-) I hope you have a swelling free day!

  • @TJ1979, I'm sorry your DH did that to you. I bet its what you ate. If if makes you feel better my DH did something similiar the other night. I asked him to help me clip my toe nails because I can't reach them and he totally refused! At least your hubby was half joking.

  • Are you sure you not just on your feet too much?? I sit behind a desk and do walk around with files but not all day. Maybe you over did it along with too much sodium or something? I'm down to wearing my wedding band at this point. I gained 8 pounds in a week last week..waiting to see my doc next monday because the girl felt bad and took 2 pounds off for my shoes so hoping im not starting to retain water. I don't care if I swell as long as this isn't a repeat of last time.

  • I sit at a desk too. So no, probably not on my feet too much. But I do think I definitely had too much sodium and not enough water. And (tmi) I've been peeing like a racehorse all day. So it's probably just from being so bad yesterday.
GL at the doc, hopefully it's nothing to worry about.

  • Well I 2nd the compression stockings!! I've been super lucky with DS and this far not having any swelling and I'm on my feet ALL day, but I do wear compression stockings, even when I'm not pregnant. Not so lucky with my wedding rings though. Those are gonna have to stay off permanently soon!
I would just like to add that I have a full on outtie belly button at 22 weeks that really irks me, especially when I see it through my shirt. Lol
    Hope the swelling goes down!
