T&P please

I just really need to talk to somebody about this. You might remember in the past I mentioned my quasi SIL (in-laws are her legal guardian). Well she had her baby in December and has been staying at a home for teenage mom's (she's 19). Well recently FACS (family and children's services) was called on her from the staff at the house. I honestly don't believe she is really capable of taking care of this baby.

Yesterday I was talking to my MIL and we discussed all of this. She believes at some point she will have custody of the baby, like basically fostering it. Well I told her that if SIL loses complete parental rights hubby and I would adopt the baby. (we had talked about it earlier cuz we sorta expected something like this)

So any spare T&P you can send to this poor little guy would be appreciated. I feel so helpless right now. I want to do something RIGHT now, but I know the system doesn't work that way. I mean it could all end in naught, or we could end up with our second child. Who knows right?

This makes my stomach turn. I hope that baby has a safe place to live asap. My state has recently had a TON of screws up with child services. It's terrifying. Poor baby.

I worked in foster care for many years. I'm so sorry your family is going through such a rough spell. I sincerely hope the agency she is working with can provide her with some intensive support to assist her in parenting her son. However, it is good to hear that the child has familial placements as an option. Child welfare agencies are grossly underfunded and poorly staffed. One of my coworkers with a Master's degree was living in public housing because the pay is so awful. CPS gets a really bad rap, but a lot goes on behind the scenes of those agencies and they really do try to do what is best for the children. It is actually a good thing when they get involved, as they have funding for services and access to programs that the general public could never obtain.

Yes she does. But she is considered special needs for behavior. The reason FACS was called is cuz she was having a fit, screaming on top of her lungs, swearing, stamping feet. Then she grabbed the baby and was about to go outside on an icy patio with no outdoor clothes on.

So proud of you robeano. It absolutely pisses me off that she's not caring for her baby, but thank God that she's in a place where she can't get away with that. You and YH are rock stars for offering to adopt. I hope you get to, and sooner rather than later. Lots of T&P for you!
