Hernia

Went to the doctor today I have a umbilical hernia he said it usually goes away after pregnancy and is normal while pregnant.but now it is driving me crazy and I'm thinking its only been there a few days since it wasn't in my weekly pic Friday. Wondering if anyone else has this or has in the past? Did it go away on its own? Also read it can be from lifting heavy objects and I do lift heavy residents at work. Thanks

Re: Hernia

  • I have one, for the most part it's okay but some days it is painful. I tape it with a bandaid when I work out and that seems to help. My OB said I would probably need to have an in and out surgery after the baby is born to fix the tear. If it bugs you try a cotton ball under a bandaid.

  • I got one around this point in my last pregnancy with my son. It diminished post-partum, but never went away. I was going to have it fixed mainly for esthetics. It's fixed with an abdominal mesh usually under general anesthesia. I was told not to fix it until I'm done having all my kids (we are 2 and done). Before this pregnancy it would be uncomfortable if I was bloated. During pregnancy it can be very uncomfortable if I twist the wrong way or stand up too quick. Sometimes i physically press itin a little if i have to move awkward to prevent it from being uncomfortable. By the end of the day it almost looks blue-purple in tint, but my doctor says we shouldn't do anything unless I have vomiting or extreme pain (could constrict intestines). I'm definitely getting it surgically fixed within a year after giving birth. I've seen celebrities like Kelly Ripa and Katie Holmes with them and not have them fixed. Sometimes it's totally manageable and fine as long as you are ok with a small outtie.
