Glucose test

I took my glucose test yesterday and only passed by 2 points. I'm glad I don't have to do the other one but she mentioned that there might be a possibility that I develop it sometime during this trimester since I was so close to the cut off. Has this happened to anyone else where they passed and then got it later?

Re: Glucose test

  • I am not in the exact same situation... I took it at 24 weeks, earlier than my OB normally orders it, because of some possible warning signs, but I passed fine.  I still have to take it at the normal time in another couple of weeks, though, because it can develop later.  So, it makes sense they're watching you still.  Fingers crossed it's all for nothing!

  • As with any medical test it's not a black and white line at the top or bottom of the range when you go from healthy to suddenly not by a point so t makes sense. I would say maybe start watching your diet if they are concerned as that is the easiest way to control it especially if it isn't full blown- if you aren't already just be aware of having protein and some fat every time you eat and down play refined carbs in your diet and focus more on vegetables than starches. Don't avoid starches but don't have your plate be 3/4 starch in other words. That's honestly the easiest way to do it.

  • I failed by 2 points when I was pregnant with DS but passed the 3 hour with no issues....  I did not develop GD.  I wouldn't stress about it, just try to eat healthy.

  • I took mine last Friday, how did you get results so quickly?  I really hope I passed, I do not want to wait 3 hours nor get stuck in the arm 4 times.  I realize as I get older I get less tolerant of needles in my arm.

  • I failed by 4 points. I had the option to take the 3 hour, but have a history of GD and have decided to just continue with the GD diet and start testing.

The one hour isn't diagnostic for anyone, it is only an indicator if further testing is needed. I have had friends fail the 1 hour by a lot more then I did and not have GD. I would follow whatever suggestions your provider has. GD is easily managed for many women through diet and exercise, however can lead to issues later in pregnancy if not addressed.

    Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I found out later that day because I had an appointment and they had already ran the test. I was really surprised how quick I got them.

I failed my 1 hour test and have to take the 3-hour... my doctor's tolerance level for the 1 hour is 130.  Some doctors have it at 140 - and by that standard I would've passed by 3 points.

I asked her why and she said that at 140 you catch 80% of the cases and at 130 you catch 90%.

I didn't know that! My doctor went by the 140 and I was at 138 that makes me more nervous! I will have to ask her about that next time.
