Job question (nurses come in)

Need some advice.

I worked for years as a psych nurse, most recently I was subbing as a psych school nurse, but it had no guaranteed hours, finding childcare was rough and there aren't any open FT positions.  I want to go back FT because then I'd make enough money to pay for school to get my masters. And I don't really want to go back to shift work; I worked nights before and don't want that schedule.

Anyways- I'm just starting my job search and saw there was an opening at the university I went to for an Administrative Assistant in the nursing dept and the position pays very well.  Plus I'd get tuition benefits and could get my masters there for very little money. So would it look bad to apply?  Like- the university spent all this time training me to be a nurse and I'd rather do paperwork.  But it just seems so nice- after years of working with such aggressive patients I'm just burnt out.  Any thoughts?

    If it helps you earn your Masters, I'd think about it.

    What do you want to do your Masters in and what do you want to do with it? If you wanted to teach at a university or do research, a job like this may help you. If you wanted to get back into clinical nursing, this gap in practice may hurt.

    Either teaching (which this school offers) or nursing informatics (not offered), so nothing clinical.

    If you are not interested in bedside nursing anymore, I don't think it will look bad at all.

    Thanks everyone for the replies.  I'm going to apply and see where it goes.  I've also applied to a few other positions.  So FX something works out.

    I think teaching is the way to go, I live in a major city so there are a lot of schools with nursing programs that are always hiring.

    I'd say go for it. I was recently promoted to nurse supervisor on my unit and I am getting my master's. I work full time m-f. While having the weekends and holidays off are nice, it's been an adjustment for me working 5 days in a row-I have never had a job like this. I am used to rotating shifts, working part-time, not working more than 3 days in a row and having 4 day weekends. I am also having a hard time figuring out when to get groceries (I have to do it on the weekends with the rest of the world) and go to doctor appts. I do like having normal hours. I will say though that working part-time with a flex schedule would make school a little easier. I am too exhausted most weeknights to do homework so I end up spending all weekend doing it which really sucks, but it's only temporary.
