  • We mostly use toilet paper as tissues. I'm a special snowflake.

s.s- we use hankies or boogie wipes

  • When I am picking them out, I do pick the boxes that are prettier or go better with the room. But if there aren't any that match or whatever then I won't go out of my way to find one that does. I buy a couple boxes of the cooling lotion ones for when one of us gets sick.

  • I don't buy separate tissue...TP or paper towels work just fine.
  • I am surprised by how many people don't buy tissues (like kleenex).
I box a package of 9 and out of the package they and match them to rooms as best as possible.

DS had to bring either a tissue box or cereal box to school to make a valentine mailbox. We don't eat cereal or buy tissues so I literally had to buy a box of tissues and empty it.

  • I've never seen boxes that actually matched my decor. We all have allergies so we go through a lot of tissues and the only ones we like are kleenex brand. The boxes are really ugly but when I use them frequently they're the onlt ones that don't bother the skin around my nose.

We have a decent number of cloth hankies as well, but not nearly enough during allergy season.

  • I have a tissue box holder in my LR that matches our decor.
  • No. We don't buy tissues.

TP all the way. I carry a roll around when z or I are sniffly. People probably think I'm nuts.

My dad uses handkerchiefs. Always has. He has a huge drawer full!
  • Thanks @curlingrocks!

  • Okay, so we use toilet paper. Apparently this annoys my MIL, so she brings over tissue boxes when she visits. It annoys me every time.
  • SS: If I can, yes.

i.e. I buy a 12 pack of kleenex boxes. There are 6 different colors of box. 4 colors match, 2 don't. When I know people are coming over, I make sure one that matches is out.

My MIL does this, brings TP too (they like the crumbly kind, cottonelle.)  i think she's just trying to be a considerate guest though, since they visit a lot. DH is grossed out by using TP (i guess he imagines dirty hands touching it? or b/c the holder is so close to the toilet, & y'all remember that "particles flying" discussion from the other week.) so we buy the huge packs from costco (lasts a long time) & i match to the room if possible (only 2 rooms, so it's not like i have a flow chart lol.)

I hate using TP as tissues. We but quilted northern lately because it's cheap and soft. I haven't yet bit the bullet to make hankies, but I like the receiving blanket or burp cloth idea. I will do it!
But.... won't this really spread the germs like crazy? I like tissues cause you use it, throw it out, then wash your hands.

    Hankies = germs, no?

  • I agree. When you're sick anyway, hankies = recycled germs.

  • hankies can mean recycled germs, but we mostly use them for allergies, not colds

What she said. When it's a cold we use TP *shrug*

My MIL keeps tissues but hides the box in a bathroom drawer so no one knows its there.

No idea, it drives me BSC.
  • Can some more tissue-buying people please chime in here so I don't feel so crazy? I would rather grab tissues out of a box than have to plant rolls of toilet paper in every room and tear pieces off whenever I needed to blow my nose. I would think this would be the case for a lot more people than seem to be represented in this thread.

Do people plant rolls of tp around the house?!? I just walk into one of the bathrooms if I need to wipe/blow my nose.

Rewiping your snot on a hankie is so gross.

Do you only wipe/blow in th same tissue once?
Uh, I do. I also only wipe once with a piece of toilet paper. ;)
  • I had no idea so many people used TP?  i can't even imagine using that.  DH has bad allergies and has always used Puffs Plus with Lotion.  I use to use Kleenex brand before I met him and now I can't use anything but Puffs Plus.

  • I don't blow my nose very often, but when I do I just grab TP. I'm pretty sure I haven't bought a box of tissues... um, ever.

I'd probably use cloth handkerchiefs if I needed to blow my nose a lot. But like I said, I don't. I rarely get colds and my allergies usually come in the form of dry/itchy eyes.

I buy the kids booger wipes if they get actually sick. We use hankies, flat diapers or towels. I also have biking gloves with a terry cloth patch meant to wipe your nose.
i cut each boogie wipe into 2 or 3 pieces since they're so darn big. one pack lasts us through several colds.

i need those gloves for running. i just use my sleeve or my shirt lol.
