  • or are you not having a party ??? just curious to know the consensus. I am putting 3-8 on the invite but the entertainment will be from 4:30-6:30. My people usually arrive late which is why they need to be told 1 hour in advance. After entertainment I figure cut the cake and pictures and then party over.

    What are you guys doing?
  • it's my first party ever. im new at this just tryna figure out the right way lol
  • It will probably be like 10- 1 but will depend what her nap schedule is by then. It's just going to be family so they will be welcome to stay and hang out all day if they'd like.

  • This is pretty confusing. If you were having the party at 7 you could fall into 3 different categories.…
i pressed enter too fast and it started the poll . sorry  :((
  • My party will be at 3:00. Because that's what works with LO's nap time.

I like the idea of a stop time, not something I Would typically do - but my in laws will stay FOREVER if there aren't parameters in place.

We're still trying to figure out where to have the party - I really want it at our house, but there may just be too many people. We're at 25 people immediate family only - I hate it. It makes it hard and less than ideal to invite friends :(

In your case I can see listing an hour earlier on the invite, knowing that people will be really late. Although that would annoy me so much.

  • Since you're just trying to gauge, a rule of thumb is that kid's (especially babies/ toddlers) birthday parties last about 2 hours.  I would work those two hours around baby's normal nap and feeding times.  So would do mine from about 2-4 since both of my kids wake up from their naps at about 2-2:30, they would have eaten at about noon and would want to eat again around the end of the party.

yes trust me it does get annoying but i would rather be safe than sorry. My people need to get it together hahahahhahah. Typically they would expect a full blown adult party with an open bar, dj , dancing, etc. I'm steering away from all of that. They will be shocked but I dont really care.
  • I haven't decided yet. I want to do it outside so I'm kind of waiting to see if the weather starts to warm enough, plus I have two kids' naps to work around. Probably 2 or 3 if I think I can get them to nap early that day.
This is the biggest downside about birthdays this time of year, I would LOVE some outdoor involvement in my party but I know I Can't consider it a given.

  • Kids b-day party - 2 hours is perfect!

None of my options are there.  I'm having our from 10am -12pm  or 11am-1pm.

I have naptime to deal with.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • Ours will start at 3pm. People will probably hang around until 8 or 9, but it's mostly family so they will stay even after our kids go to bed. The 2 other families with kids coming will probably leave around 5ish.

  • @lilbit0910 we're having it from 1-5 but we are having it in our backyard instead.  We are going on vacation the next day so we decided to do this to keep the cost down.  Did we end up saving?  Hell no, It's cheaper to do it at the hall but my ass decided to go all pinteresty and bought every owl related decoration I could find.

I am doing 11-2 and mine is a drop by party. I have a lot of childless friends so I don't expect them to sit around a kids birthday for anymore than an hour. We will specify on the invite what time the cake smash will be in case people are more interested in seeing A do 'birthday related' activities. Besides that, it will be more socializing.

ETA - @tondraluv I'm the same way! I have spent over $200 at craft stores. I know some of it I won't use and take back, but still. ridic

Yes! I used to just go to hobby lobby but I went to Michael's because it was by the grocery store I went to and it was amazing. So different than Hobby Lobby, IMO.
Way more stuff for DIY crafts

  • I'm just doing 2 hours which is long for DS to stay behaved. 1:30-3:30 to accommodate his nap schedule and venue availability.
