I was killing time on my lunch today, and stumbled across this article. Obviously there are really good and necessary reasons for c-sections, and I wouldn't argue with my doctor in the face of any of those. But I've heard a lot of stories from women who felt like they were rushed into a c-section they didn't think they needed simply because they had hit a particular time marker. I found that really interesting while reading this article.
Evidence based practice people!!! I midwifewt shocked reasons read that 60% number...
I got a enlightenment when I was watching "Call the midwife" and at their clinic they had a small shrine of the inventor of the cesarean section with his photo and the one elderly midwife said "He has saved so many countless women and babies. We felt we needed to honor him". Csection do save lives and these are some justifiable reasons for them, but I think there are more unjust reasons out there now... 60% increase...

@lalaith50 - I just now had time to read this. Very interesting. I have to say, I'm super squeamish at the idea of a forceps delivery. I think if I was given the choice I might choose a c-section rather than forceps. Part of that is exactly what they state in the article. So many doctors have zero experience with them, and they're scary to me in the first place.
MH and I decided not to go with a doula, but sometimes I wonder if that's the wrong choice. This late in the game, however, I wouldn't know how to find one.
@babycaps - I hope posting this wasn't an accidentally douchy/insensitive move! I would certainly get a c-section if my doctors felt that was the best option for the safety of my baby and myself. Also, interesting to know about the forceps or vacuum option. I'm not sure why it's so scary for me.
Re: C/S Guidelines - Thought this was interesting
"The researchers concluded that if a woman does not need a C-section, doctors should try their hardest to avoid doing the procedure."
LOL. I'm sad they needed research for that.
@coreyeliz - Like this gem "Labor takes a little longer than we may have thought,"
